Grand Amateur Golf Open Logo
Layout Sample

As with my earlier blog entry, I'm releasing the current working prototype of Grand Amateur Golf Open. As this is a revamp of the initial game I showed a couple of months back, I'm really interested in feedback for the changes I made.

Of course, the rules may be revamped in the future. The art itself is also not the final version. I really want to go for a cartoony feel for the next version/s, but I'm not really in the budget range of getting an artist. Gotta get better at drawing...

The Rules and The PnP version of the prototype can be downloaded below. If you're interested, I'm looking forward to your feedback, guys!

I'll Take A Shot

Looking forward to a game of GAGO, Jorrel!

I have some layout and iconography suggestions for the PnP materials after a quick skim, but I'm curious to have a go at your current iteration in any case.

If I have anything to report, I will certainly do so here. :)

Hey thanks!

Thanks, man! Looking forward to what you have to say about the game.

BTW, the last 4 pages of the Game Files is for the back of the pieces. Don't know yet which one I want to have, so I put it there for people to have the choice which one they want.

Lastly, I just realized. The Acronym of the game is an offensive word in our country. I need to find a better name. Or maybe I'll keep it, for giggles.

Offensive Words

There was a similar situation I remember reading about, when they released the Chevy Nova automobile in Spanish speaking countries... "No va" means "do not go" in Spanish. I guess they were okay with it. :)

Maybe you want to stick with it, and call the game "GOGA Golf." Seems to have a cartoony, humorous vibe to it, particularly for native Filipinos. However I've been called out on my lack of sensitivity for non-American cultures and I think you're smart for being concerned about it. It may be wise to make the change.

I guess being kid friendly is a concern...

It certainly is something. I'm kinda 50/50 about it, as well as people i've asked. Many people without kids arecertainly fine with it, but parents are a little bit concerned with the name.

We'll see where the name goes.

You do have the problem that

You do have the problem that d12, d10 and d8 aren't that common so the game owner either having to go a gaming shop or buying online. The game guide really needs examples of play and a layout of setup.

Thanks for the tips

I was really thinking about the accessibility of dice, and initially i thought of adding cutout dice to the playtest kit. Though maybe Custom D6s may also do the trick. Similar to the special dice in Mario Party!

As far as the layouts, I'm preparing another version of the Manual, with pictures and examples. Just need more time to devote to it. Thank God for long weekends!!!!

EDIT: I added a sample image for reference... :D
