Hey all

my game Knossus is ready for some ruthless playtesting if I can tempt you!

---------------------------------------------------------------------------
Knossus is a turn based, dungeon game set in a Labyrinth on the legendary island of Knossus.

You take on the role of a young unfortunate from Athens sentenced to die in the labyrinth. A monster lies within and your only hope lies in keeping your wits about you and somehow killing the beast.

The victory condition is simple : enter the labyrinthe, find the sword and slay the monster!

You control the hero and the minotaur but so do your fellow victims - stay ahead of the monster and get to the sword. Then hunt the beast down and kill it.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

Its a 2-4 player game with 33 cards and a board (plus some counters) needed to play

All ready for print here:

If you can't be bothered printing it, there's also a TTS file here:

Any feedback would be great!

Andy

Looks pretty cool - I don't

Looks pretty cool - I don't have much of a game group so don't know when I'll have a chance to try it, but I'll probably print it up soon to have on hand in case the opportunity arises.

Rule questions - clarify "charge" - how far does this card allow you to move? Straight line only?

The item cards - are these cards kept separate from the rest of the move deck, only taken when you have the item? Or are they shuffled in to the deck?

Does the Minotaur have to be facing you on an adjacent tile to kill you, or does that not matter? (Can he kill you no matter which direction he's facing?)

thanks - great questions I

thanks - great questions I need to address!

Charge : minotaur moves until he hits a wall. Player moves 5 spaces. Straight line only.

Item cards : kept to the side of the board and picked up when the hero picks up the item (as a reminder of what they do) or replaced if the item is dropped.

Minotaur kills you regardless of what direction he is facing.

first draft of cards is

first draft of cards is *almost* ready for a print run.... just waiting for a few more illustrations

the prototype magnetic board works great - generated a maze for tonight's playtest and transporting the pieces in place on the board!

of course the playtest last

of course the playtest last night turned up a number of useful comments which are causing some heavy evolution in the game. Including removing the modular maze design and magnetic tiles aspect.

le sigh..........:)

watch this space - rules updating imminently

Rules updated

Rules and PnP have been updated to reflect the latest changes - here:
PnP Link

Changes:
Board has been overhauled to add 3 more entrances. This should reduce the effective size of the board, reducing frustration on death and speeding the game up

Number of cards per hand has been reduced to 4 to better balance the moves between player and monster when players are higher numbers and players are eliminated

Additional item added - the Aegis of Hera - this allows you to summon items regardless of where they are, or who owns them

Now 7 male and 7 female heroes (for PnP these should be sleeved back to back to allow a choice of either gender. Note only 7 heroes/communal lives in total

few more tweaks to this

few more tweaks to this following some playtesting -

specifically shrines allowing the fixing of cards makes for an interesting element.

New changes add a little more complexity but make for a faster game.

3 games - less chance of monster winning, particularly with reduction in hand size and dead player capability.

I've rewritten the rulebook to streamline a bit and make it easier to read (and to help me teach!)

3 player playtest went well

did a couple of runs through of Knossus last night with a 3 player group and it ran well. Latest iterations of the board and additional rules make the game much faster and action packed. Game is now averaging around 30 mins which is spot on.

At the moment the start of the game is solid - immediate action and threat from the minotaur means its fast off the mark.

Middle of the game feels tight now with the race for the relics and putting them into play - some deaths around this point as you get caught out/can't avoid the beast bearing down on you!

End of game is ok but I think can be improved - previously it has lagged a bit here and I want to keep the pace up. So - I've added the Soul cards which essentially allow much more flexibility the more heroes die. This will be tested next....

If this works well, I'm going to tidy up the main board and then create a better PnP version. (incidentally I am using a very cheap printer in the UK - doxdirect.com so if anyone does want to PnP and wants the A3 files for the board, just let me know and I can add them to the Google folder. Print costs about £3-4)

haven't posted in a while so

haven't posted in a while so overdue an update!

currently prepping for UKGE and aiming to have a first print prototype there to get some solid playtesting done.

board has been redone a couple of times tweaking for play (took it right down and now edged it slightly larger to balance some of the game play). Cards have all been improved (again) - going to print shortly

So UKGE went insanely well -

So UKGE went insanely well - we were playtesting from 9am to 6pm and got some amazing feedback, and contributions from a great bunch of people

some minor tweaks to do including updates to the Shrine cards and the main board and we're good to go. Rulebook is currently being edited (but may or may not do final layout for a while)

We have also found a sculptor for the miniatures and I'm insanely excited by this. More to come later on that score...

most excitedly, we're going to take this to showcase at Essen. :D

don't bother with them - its changed a lot since then and I foolishly entered it into a competition on BGG which meant I wasn't allowed to change them. (its had a *lot* of playtesting since then!)

As soon as they've announced the results, I'll make a new version and post here.
