Hey all,

Ive recently finished up all the artwork for my game Burrowed, a 2-4 player tile movement game. I am looking for as much feedback as possible on the artwork to see where improvements could be made before putting it all together for a final play test.

Here is a link to the google drive with examples of each of the items.

The more feedback I could receive on this the better, and everything will be taken into consideration. Can answer any questions as well if I need to provide any more context on certain parts of the cards/tiles.

Some feedback

IDK if this is relevant or not, so I'll just state it and have you address it... (Because I could be wrong)

The Buffed Rabbit says "Buff_Rabbit_Blue.png". If it's BLUE, my recommendations would be to use a LIGHT BLUE color for the background... Instead of GREEN EVERYWHERE.

Same goes with "Crazy_Rabbit_Gold.png"... I would use a YELLOW background.

Also with "Knight_Rabbit_Red.png"... I would use a RED background.

The names sound all CORRECT, it's the images which don't convey the COLOR information making all the cards SEEM like they are IDENTICAL.

That's my only REAL observation. The art looks "cute-ish"! ;)

Farmer = Circle?

If I recall correctly from reading your rules a while back, I remember that the Farmer is rotated to face the active player. If that is the case, I suggest you use a round tile/counter to indicate the farmer instead of a square tile. It will aid in both rotation and distinction.

Also, is this artwork for a prototype exhibition, or is it for release, like in a Kickstarter campaign? I like it a lot if it's the former, but I think it could benefit from some additional detail if it's the latter.

Sorry guys should have provided some more context with a few of these things.

So being a 2-4 player game, the rabbits are differentiated by colour, this colour difference is in the text of each tile since I was going for a tile background that similarly matched that of the board. So player 1 would have all the rabbits with blue text, player 2 all the rabbits with red text and so on.

You are correct, the farmer was to be rotated to match the active player, however this was modified to have a token indicating the player who started so save moving a deck across each time. Now the farmer tile will simply face one of the players and move according to their perspective.

This artwork was for release, where do you think it could be improved prior to getting it ready for release? I want to know that everything is as good as it could be beforehand so I am open to any and all suggestions :)

There's a lot of blank space

There's a lot of blank space around the edge of each tile (small rabbit in big tile). Maybe on purpose.. I'm just noting it.

Thanks for the input Jay. The reason for this is due to TGC mini square tiles having a rather small "safe" area so im rather hesitant on pushing this boundary.

Ah, those images include the bleed.. yeah, anything looks blank once the bleed is in there. 300x300 pixels for the actual image.

I personally think that there is TOO MUCH "green" going on. Your board is all GREEN and your tiles are all GREEN. TOO MUCH. IMHO. I would use the corresponding colors for the tiles: Blue, Yellow, Red, and Purple.

Sorry with this amount of GREEN, the game looks WAY TOO BUSY!

And TBH this would detract me from "buying" the game. Like I said, I like the ART ... but the board been all green and then the TILES also being so GREEN, I can't EVEN TELL which one is Red or Blue. To me they all LOOK GREEN!

Message received haha, thanks heaps for this input questccg, i will get back into the design and try and incorporate a bit more variety of colour and see how the rabbit tiles look with some other type of background to be able to differentiate from each other.

Jay, should the artwork i share for feedback include the bleed or not? I pretty much used the saved design that would be sent to tgc.

I didn't want to be too preachy ... Just to let you know

Maybe if you name the files "_bleed" or "_TGC" that would inform the viewer that the files contain a bleed or are ready to be processed by TGC. Either or would work... I'd personally use "_bleed" as a reminder to myself too. Like knowing what files contain bleed and which do not (just preview art).

Of course this is ONLY a suggestion. You don't have to adopt it if it's not compatible with your way of functioning. It's "take-it-or-leave-it" advice.

But of course if you want people to wonder less, adding "_bleed" would for certain let people know that there IS a "bleed" area around the graphics.

Cheers.

Also that GREEN is WAY TOO GREEN! (LOL)

And just as a matter of "understanding" color palettes ... I would use a more PASTEL GREEN. Like #55AA55 or maybe lighter #88CC88. The lighter version might be too light. But something in that range. Not such a GREEN GREEN... We get it it's GRASS. But something LESS HARD on the eyes would make the board nicer. @Evan had the same problem with his earlier board.

Again if you like the GREEN as it is... Fine. But I still think it's TOO GREEN. Here's a PALETTON preview of #55AA55 color-compatible palette:

Just something for you to play around with the colors/palettes...

Cheers!

Great characters, too much flat color

I'll start with a positive that the character designs of the bunnies and farmer are appealing and fun. Definitely the best part of the art. The other cards don't seem to match that style though. The carrots, bush, and trap art are very flat while the characters have some shading that give them form. The flatness is also exacerbated by the flat and gradient backgrounds. I'd try and add more of that form the characters have to the other images. I'd look at something like Point Salad for inspiration for the tile backgrounds. I know they are cards but they have a very simple yet appealing look. Not just flat color.

The board art is pretty boring as well with so many large areas of flat color without any detail. So much more could be done with it to make it appealing. That's a must since players will be looking at it the whole game. Check out the boards for Photosynthesis, Santorini, Tiny Towns, and Whistle Stop. They are all simple top down landscapes that are predominantly green but they have a lot of variation within them which makes them nice to look at.

Hope that helps.
