My process was as follows.

1) Design the game.
2) Play it on my own.
3) Refine it.
4) Send out 10 prototypes to friends around the world to get insights.
5) Refine it.
6) Run a Kickstarter and make final edits before releasing version 1 to backers.

Pros/Cons of this process? And what do you guys think about the mechanics I've laid out? It's pretty loose and ultimately the players will have a huge role in shaping what Cartegram becomes.

Game?

It doesn't really seem like a game, but does seem like it could be fun. More like an adventure can be fun. It would seem more like a game if there's some kind of ranking mechanism to sort of compete against the other players. Maybe i'll join in to help me get out of the house more :D

As for the kickstarter process, this one seems refined enough for what it is. Since it involves playing over multiple seasons, getting a different book each time, it's expected that it would evolve over time, likely becoming more refined as you go. This is different than board games that are very difficult to change after they go to the printer.

Re: Cartegram

First of all thanks for backing!

I guess calling it a game may be a stretch, but it may feel like that more in my mind than it will to others. I think the idea of posting it to Instagram does create some competition, but you're right I think I need to add some deeper ranking systems. Maybe I can do this via simple custom site for the super users out there.

The goal is noble, the idea

The goal is noble, the idea is well presented.

Is there a grading or voting system to way which photos are accepted or rejected? what happens if someone's photo is rejected?

Your work process seems fine, maybe even standard.

Re: Cartegram

@laperen Thanks!

In terms of photos being accepted or reject, in my current layout there is no way I can control that. Essentially anyone can tag a photo with the #cartegram hashtag in Instagram and then everyone else can see it. I think I CAN build a grading system outside of Instagram for the super users but most people will likely just participate via the Instagram feed.
