So I am sitting around thinking.
Are we using our resources correctly here!

This is a community with one purpose.
Getting our games to the public!

Isn't there some phrase about saftey and power in #s

maybe i am incorrect but aren't we all trying to get our games on shelves?
how can we as a community help this happen.

Maybe a union and the big companies would have to get ideas from union members making it easier for us to get noticed.

I am not some rebel rouser I just think collectivley we are stronger than each independant knocking on the glass ceiling.

any thoughts?

Even if you could force publishers into that position adding another requierment, union membership, to get your games published dosn't seem like the answer.

Besides if you have gumption to start and run a successful union you certainly could self publish instead.

I like this sell a band idea

Lets not get caught up on symantics
of course a union is a wild idea and wouold never work
but this sell a band idea is the right thinking way to go about this.

Lets work together!

Yes I can self publish we all can but that only gets us out to a small audience.

I have about 2500 clients on my mailing list I can certaintly send out emails promoting other games. People who by mine might like yours.

There is already a game

There is already a game designers association. I don't remember what it is exactly called, but it does exist.

Not to sound pessimistic, more pragmatic...
The collective would need a contact point between itself and the audience. The most likely occurrence would be a website which in itself has financial & logistical weight. Would anyone of us be willing to invest a few thousand dollars on a game catalog site?

How other design collectives do it is largely by either creating network associations (working in tandem with distributors) or production houses (working directly with clients).

SellaBand

SellaBand looks extremely cool and that same system could possibly be used in a game publishing world.

It looks like a simple pre-order system which several publishers already use.

Except the pre-orderers get a cut of the profits. Very interesting. It says they've released 21 albums since 2006, I wonder how they did/are doing...

So it's like if the believers

So it's like if the believers were actually investing money into the product (like buying shares) that could be indeed interesting.

In another thread, somebody said that Hasbro where only accepting submissions from brokers. Maybe we could try to get a dedicated broker for the whole BGDF . It gives the broker a good pool of submissions and it gives some reputation to BGDF at the same time. Finally, BGDFers don't have to search for a broker since their forum has one.

That could be a way to combine resources.

If we all lived at the same place, I would have promoted financing material to produce games and sharing the equipment, but unfortunately it is not possible yet. Well until teleportation exist.
