Hello,
I am new to the forums so apologize in advance if this is not the right spot for this.

I threw together a play through video for the hockey board game I designed called Drop the Puck.

Any and all feedback and constructive criticism is welcome.

You'd probably get more

You'd probably get more feedback from a 10 minute how-to-play video. An hour long playthrough is a bit much.

I watched the first 5 minutes, and the game has a good look to it. It seems to be very thematic.

However, it also seems to be a slog. Have you tried to do anything to speed up gameplay? It looked to be painfully slow which is not at all like hockey.

Check out this soccer game: https://boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/66197/spiel-mit-lukas-dribbel-fieber

It might give you some ideas on how to pick up the pace.

Thank you for the feedback

Thank you for your feedback!

I do have a 15 min overview video
https://youtu.be/MFf6TNvuV-E

I admit that it does take the fast paced action of hockey and slows it down but this allows for strategic gameplay. Setting up pass, shoot combos while utilizing team member abilities and enhancing actions with the coaching cards.

It can lead to lengthy turns and can have a chess like feel but I wanted to go heavy on the theme as most sports games I have played have a "kind of feels like" feel to them (I call it the NBA JAM effect)and I wanted full immersion. I also wanted to stay away from boiling it down to a rock em sock em beat em up type game and lean more towards strategic hockey action.

I had a hockey player play tester that commented how he was successfully utilizing actual hockey plays and setups during his game.

I never dismiss a viewpoint and I will defiantly check out the soccer game to see how they handle converting on the field action into board game format. Thanks again for the feedback.

There are links to the Game Crafter and Facebook page for the game in the description of the play through video. I would post them here but I am still not clear on the rules for the forums.

There's absolutely nothing

There's absolutely nothing wrong with wanting to create a game that leans more toward simulation. That kind of thing really appeals to a certain type of gamer, and games like "Pizza Box Football" and others are a testament to that.

And I'm sure you realize that the market for simulation style games is much smaller than the market for "NBA Jam" style games, but I have a feeling this is more a labor of love than hitting it big in retail.

As a fellow designer trying to create a sports game, I wish you the best of luck.

You nailed it

Yea I have no delusions that this will take off big and be a huge market success. My hopes are more that the niche group of people who will be interested in a game of this nature will enjoy it.

Trying to translate a sport to board game format has been a fun and interesting challenge.

Thanks and good luck to you on your sports game project.
