Howdy Y'all!

It's coming up on Memorial Day weekend, and that means it's time to the third annual occurrence of Protospiel South!

In the spirit of Protospiel, Protospiel South is a gathering for amateur and established game designers to test and promote nearly-finished game prototypes. The atmosphere is casual, yet everyone is serious about their goals and dreams of publishing games.

As in previous years, Protospiel South will take place in Austin, TX. This year we're changing our venue to HubAustin ( http://hubaustin.com/ - Address: 4930 S Congress Ave, Austin, TX 78745 ) - a nifty co-working space in South Austin. It's a short drive to many nice local hotels, the Airport, the South Congress eating/shopping district, and downtown Austin.

People of all ages are welcome, but children under 17 must be accompanied by a guardian (their admission is free, though).

[b]Dates:[/b]
Friday: May 25 - Informal meet 'n greet dinner. Gather at HubAustin at 6:30. Leave for Rudy's at 2451 South Capital of Texas Highway, Austin, TX at 7:00. Return to HubAustin for chatting and playtesting at ~9 PMish?
Saturday: May 26 - 9 AM to 10 PM
Sunday: May 27 - 9 AM to 10 PM

[i]Expected Notable Attendees for 2012...[/i]
[i][person=13024]Justin De Witt[/person][/i], co-owner of Austin-based board game publishing house, [company=9624]Fireside Games[/company].

At Protospiel 2011, Justin playtested [thing=104590]an expansion[/thing] to their popular first release: [thing=43443]Castle Panic[/thing], and let us play a prototype of Fireside's (then-upcoming) real-time dice game, [thing=99081]Bears![/thing]

[i]Eric Dow[/i], owner/manager of Wonko's Toys and Games.

At Protospiel 2011, Eric sponsored a pizza dinner and led a "Retailer Insights" session on Sunday evening at ~5 PM and answered questions from the attendees about the state of the retail hobby game business and how to work with retailers.

South East?

Does anyone know if there is anything like this closer to the southeast of the US? This looks very cool, wish I could attend.

Sorry to hear you can't attend. Austin's a great place to visit, and I'm sure you'd have a great time at the convention. If I think of anything in the southeast, I'll post it here.

Anyone else have a suggestion?

Dragoncon?

I think Dragoncon is in Atlanta over Labor Day weekend (early September)

I know a few of us are in the Charlotte-Raleigh NC area - maybe we can get something going on our own?

The only brisket that's worthwhile is extra moist brisket. Everything else is just slow cooked meat.

Philly's my old stomping grounds! If you're even remotely into art, check out the Philla. Museum of Art on Sunday. Free admission before noon, and it's full of great stuff. I like the Asian section.
