Like what kind of notifications are they?
1. Private Messages Notifications
2. Notification Subscriptions
In the event it is only one type or the other... That could be investigated.
Once you confirm what kind of content you are receiving, we can maybe see what is happening exactly.
Please respond to this thread ... and maybe if you can describe the nature of the "Notification" (like what threads for example or from what user depending on the type of notification).
We'll see if we can get to the bottom ... but right now we need more details.
Cheers!
Ok, I'll check it out and post the results.
It looks like you had 500+ threads you were subscribed to, which was all the threads you had started over the years. No reason you should have gotten updates on them all at once that I see now, but question:
Were the notifications you received on old threads, or posts from a long time ago?
I received 23 notification today.
I opened 7 thread randomly, 6 of them where in 2015, one in 2013. 5 of them were in September of that year.
Not sure if there is a problem comparing the dates and notifies me for old post.
Considering they are old thread, It might be pointless to post all the titles here.
I checked the thread categories and they include any category. It's also from different authors.
I suspect that I actually never subscribed to those thread. One of them is a game design showdown thread called "The only way out is up".
The thing is that I never subscribed to any of those game designer showdown thread.
I am surprised that no other user has this issue.
Well that's a BUG ... because there were ONLY 6 posts today! How can he be getting 23 notifications???
Definitely something wrong. It's like that user that has been on this website for 40 years. Weird! Granted that looks to be a database insertion error (how, I don't know) ... and this seems a bit odd that he has subscribed to 500+ threads considering the SUBSCRIPTION OPTION has only been around for a year or two...? Like 2016 I believe.
To FIX this issue, I would recommend removing ALL notifications and start FRESH. I personally don't use notification unless it's Private Messaging. I just visit the site on a daily basis.
I get why you would use the notification... It's very practical.
BUT I seriously doubt that @Larienna subscribed to ALL 500+ threads! Something is wrong...!
You can remove all notification. I think I stopped subscribing to thread when the feature was removed when moving to a new site.
The only thing I should still be notified are Private messages.
Must I do the unsubscribing process myself, or you'll just clean up the DB with a simple SQL query.
I removed all my subscription category, there was only 1 category checked. But I still continued to received message.
So I just decided to disable notification at whole, and the website tells me that:
"You have 27578 items queued for delivery. (The number of resulting notifications will typically be much smaller.)"
I imagine if I re-enable the notifications with the option:
"Yes, but drop the queued items"
It should delete those 27000 notifications.
@Eric send a Private Message to 'richdurham'. I don't have such fine granular control. Only he has the access to make the necessary corrections.
Thank you.
I don't know why, because this site is so old and busted, but the cron cycle that is supposed to run regularly and send notifications is backed up with over 970,000 in the queue to run, with over 128,000 jobs suspended.
For now, I'm purging the queue and turning off subscriptions.
This is also the final straw for this old Drupal. Notice coming soon on a move.
I did not know this web site was considered old again.
This is like the 3rd web site since I have signed up.
Yeah sure is, and it's running on Drupal 6 without a clean way of updating (I don't have that IT skill set) or moving it over to drupal 8.
Years ago the site had a higher number of active admins that handled the IT side, but now it's like those with the keys didn't build the car and don't know how it works.
I don't really know Dupral, for some system it could only mean unzipping new files in a folder to replace the old files. That's what I do with Pmwiki, but I am not sure if the same can be done with Dupral.
Sadly not, and part of that is the custom scripts running on this system and the series of plugins we have.
