Hi,

I'm new to this forum and wanted to say hello. I've enjoyed playing "Euro" board and card games since 2004. Until recently, I never even considered designing my own game; then I found out that a colleague/friend at work designed a game, with mixed reviews, and I became inspired.

I have two games that I have been working-on in my spare time. One is a Restaurant-themed game; the other is a Victorian/Edwardian-Literature / Penny Dreadful / Dime Novel Game.

I've joined this website in the hope that I can read some articles about game mechanics to get ideas on how to better design my games. I am also hoping to meet / connect with other fans of board games. The gestalt on the first is mostly formed; whereas the second is still in the nacent phase of game development.

I look forward to my time on this forum!

Best,
MarkP1981

Welcome To The Club!

Welcome to the club, MarkP1981. I'm sure you'll find what you're looking for. Your mention of a restaurant-themed game interests me, because I have long thought that the theme has long gone underdone. (I assume that this game deals with restaurant management.) In fact, about a month ago I had an idea for a restaurant idea - but don't worry, because this idea was extremely vague, and was more like a "hmm, that would be cool" kind of thought, then an actual design: Therefor I am more than willing to help (I'm not going to steal or compete with your idea!) :) I would definitely like to help you develop this project, and I think that it would be awesome to help introduce a good game of this theme to the board gaming community.

In one of my earlier posts (under this forum topic) I briefly explained a idea I had up my sleeves for a hospital management board game called 'Patient 13.' As I was developing this idea, it struck me how similar the mechanics for this game could be to a game about restaurant management, so you might find it helpful to check out this post (where I describe 'Patient 13.') I'd love to find some sort of reflection between our two games, and maybe we could bounce some ideas off each other.

However, the game that I am currently designing right now is a civ building game called 'Age Of Man'. I'll be doing a post on this soon, so keep your eyes and ears open!

Anyways, welcome again to BGDF.

Cheers.

P.S. Your other game sounds intriguing as well, and I'm eager to hear more!
