Hello all,

My name is Kyle, and I'm interested in game design. I'm 27 years old, and have been playing games all my life. I usually go in cycles from different games (i.e. RPGs, video games, CCGs, tabletop games, board games), and lately I have been very interested in board games.

I play a wide variety of games. I really enjoy cooperative games, with or without a traitor element, and semi-cooperative/team based games (a la Mansions of Madness). I also enjoy deck building to an extent (holdover from my CCG heavy days), and resource management/set collection type games. If a game gives you a chance to choose between a wide variety of actions, I really enjoy that. I'd rather have too many options then not enough. I'm also the guy who likes to try out odd strategies that haven't been done in our group before.

Some of my favorite games to play with my family and friends are:

Shadows Over Camelot
Battlestar Galactica
Pandemic
Chaos in the Old World
Caylus
Race for the Galaxy
Tsuro
Colosseum
Acquire
Power Grid
Dominion

I am married with three young children (a 6 year old boy and twin girls who just turned 2 last week), and my wife plays games with me on occasion. I'm always looking for new games to try, and I was sent here by Tom Vassel of The Dice Tower. I've watched every one of their Youtube Top Ten Lists and it has really helped me broaden my game choices and set me on a path to pick up a few games in particular.

As for designing, I've never designed any games for other people. I do have several I'm working on though, and I'm really excited to share my ideas and receive feedback! Here's what I'm working on:

* "Heist" - A role-based bluffing game about hiring a team to rob a bank, evading the police, and making it off with the loot, hopefully without an undercover cop getting involved.
* "Get Off My Lawn!" - A pick-up-and-deliver game where you and the other neighborhood kids are trying to get your stuff out of the neighbor's yard without him catching you.
* "The High Seas" - A pirate-themed card game, taking on the role of a captain on his ship, hiring crew, plundering islands, and lobbing cannonballs at anyone in your way.
* [Untitled Time Travel game] - Because, there's not enough time travel out there.

There's probably about a dozen others that I've thought about, but never written down.

I look forward to our collaboration!

It's nice to see someone else

It's nice to see someone else who found their way here from the dice tower. In the short time I've been on this site, bgdf has become my favourite place on the internet and I try to read every post when I can help it!

Also, your heist game sounds like a lot of fun. I look forward to hearing more about your designs!

I'm keen to see what your time traveling game is like! I have one in the planning stage myself, it'd be interesting to see if we've similar games. :)

If you are still interested

If you are still interested in game design and if you live in the Topeka - Lawrence - Kansas City area, check out this link:

I'm attempting to form a board game designers group and I started that thread here on bgdf to try and identify interest.
