I would like to take this opportunity to say hello to the world of Board Game Designers.
A bit about me: I come from New York, and work for a local credit union. I have, over the past few years, been developing an enjoyable addiction to board gaming. And more recently have had a strong urge to create! I feel I have some fresh ideas, and a decent balance of creativity and mechanic-designing ability. HOWEVER, I find the thought of breaking into this field DAUNTING! There are so many games i don't know about and haven't played!
I have a few designs i am currently working on, and recently, after a few play tests, discovered similar games already on the market, that I have never seen or played before. Which, although i am proud of how far i brought my simple designs (to be played and enjoyed by my group of friends), is a bit discouraging to my designing process, as i don't want any onlooker to say, "Isn't this the same as so-and-so."
Not to mention i have absolutely no contacts or connections in the big work of board game publication.
These are, to me my biggest concerns to my hobby (hopeful career) of board game design.
SO, if my fellow Board Games Designers have any words of advice to little me, i would appreciate it. Otherwise i look forward to discussing Board Games, design, and my progress with all!
