Hi,

Just wanted to introduce myself and say hello :)

My name is Matt and I'm from the UK. After the usual childhood board games, lots of teenage Games Workshop and quite a number of years away, I have gotten back into table top gaming in the last few years.

Starting out with Death Angel, Agricola and Carcassonne. This has spiraled out of control and I now have a good collection of dungeon crawlers, card games, deck builders and a few others. I also found out about KickStarter...ooops.

Having always been creative from amking films, writing comics I naturally was drawn to designing my own games. I started my first one about 2 months ago - a War of the Worlds themed deck building and exploration game. Rather than focusing on the larger human/martian conflict, it looks at an individual characters challege of evading the martians and surviving. I was thinking about posting more about this in a design journal article.

I have now added a few more games to my ideas list, some more fleshed out than others (and some probably to be scrapped as they already exist!) -

* A chicken farming game where you have to raise different chickens for different colour eggs for different customers at a farmers market.

* A steampunk themed mini dungeon crawler based on deck of dungeon tile cards to explore, token draw bag for enemies, events deck and few dice for fighting. The lower your life, the fewer dice you roll for combat, and need to rest to recover them.

* Wrestling card game with 'crowd support' mechanism you need to get them on your side before you can tee up your finishing moves and pin your opponent.

* A lighthouse/siren/mermaid/fisherman lore tower defence style game (after watching 2019 The Lighthouse film recently)

That's enough rambling for now. Hope some of that might be a little interesting :)

Take care, cheers

Matt

Welcome

Welcome to BGDF, Matt. Looking forward to seeing your ideas fleshed out, and your thoughts on others' game ideas as well.

Welcome

Sounds like you came to the same interest through a completely different route. You via the artistic, me via the play mechanics.

I look forward to seeing your ideas. I also think you could be a great resource for those of us who seek art and thematic support. I see you made comics. Do you do the art or the story? Do you have a portfolio we could look at (or portfolio's of your artist friends)? If I can get any of my games to a final draft from a gameplay stand point I would be looking for artist.

Hi Adam,I was the comic

Hi Adam,

I was the comic writer, and developed 10 or so different stories and projects over the years. It was quite a while back now though - only 1 got to the final art stage with my friend, will try and dig it out :) Would be good to read my old stories too - some might be interesting ideas for games!

Unfortunately I can't draw for anything! As you will see if I upload some pics of my in development games :)

I do like to make the games look reasonable out of the gate (I know I shouldn't spend much time on this element, but...) so I often get some relevent art for the card backs and print a load of them off, then scrawl some text/sketch on a blank bit of paper for the 'game' side, and sleeve it for play testing.

Cheers

Matt
