Hello all! I joined a while back but never introduced myself. My name is Dave (aka detour) and I am a game designer! Trying to be at least a hobbyist anyway. I love gaming and card games in particular. I'm here to learn and hopefully get feedback, criticism, ideas, suggestions, and anything else I can from this community. I'm a software developer by trade so, like my hobby software projects, I've decided to take an "open source" approach to this. I've posted my latest "game design doc" to Github, as well as my Nandeck script, assets, etc. under a CC license. I'll post that over in New Game Ideas.

Hello Dave!

Welcome to BGDF. :)

Really curious to learn more about your "open source approach" and how that works out for you. I tinker with both tabletop game and video game design, and it's a concept I think I could learn a lot from. Also interested in learning about your journey in the hobbyist developer world as well.

Please don't be a stranger here. :)

Thanks for the warm welcome.

Thanks for the warm welcome.

My approach is pretty simple: I have my "game design doc" posted on GitHub and licensed with a Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-ShareAlike. This means I retain copyright but the design and materials can still be remixed, expanded upon, and/or otherwise adapted for non-commercial purposes provided that I still get credit and the content is made available under the same license.

My Nandeck script is posted, this shows how I layout out my cards. I felt that there aren't enough quality examples of how to use this powerful tool. Hopefully this helps get someone started.

I have my "database" of cards posted (just a CSV file). Combined with Nandeck, others should easily be able to add/edit cards in the game this way. This file is also key in illustrating how to use Nandeck's powerful "LINK" feature.
