Hello...

Just thought I would drop a line to say hi. My name is Tragic and I've been playing board games for a long time. I always played a ton of games, the standard like Monopoly, Clue, Chess ... but then in 1984 I was looking for He-Man dolls at the toy store and saw Axis and Allies. This kinda broke me. Now over 2 decades latter I have a fairly large collection in the 100s of games, run a semi-popular utube chan on board games....... . . . AND like all boardgamers.. have tons of my own games that I have dreamt up over the years.

So I thought I would have a go at prototyping some of my games. At this time I am not really interested in commercial application. I more interested in just seeing them played and refining them from feedback.. if anything is really liked.. maybe .. we will see. Still most likely everything will be posted publicly for others to PnP.

I thought to start I would do a print and play game of one of the nicer PnP projects on BoardGameGeek as a way to practice at making the board games. So while I will be asking about and showing pictures here (and on my tube chan) of a PnP game, eventually I'll use the lessons learned on my own title.

Anyway, thanks for the resource and I hope everyone is friendly and helpful!! hehe

Have Fun and ROLL HIGH

Hmm...

Welcome to the board... I just had a quick comment about PnP (Print-And-Play). Larienna, another designer on this website, conveyed to me that only about 6% of gamers would be interested in a PnP version of a game. I personally feel this should be more like 3% (half the amount).

Cutting cards for prototype takes enough time... to do it to actually play a game (to me) seems ludicrous.

BTW depending on the nature of your game, you could think of using The Game Crafter and covering the costs of manufacturing and shipping of the game. Now that sounds more reasonable... It's more expensive than PnP but you get a nicely printed and cut product. Their website is: http://www.thegamecrafter.com

This might be a feasible alternative to PnP... Depending on the components of your game!

Best of luck to you and your designs!

?

Not entirely sure what you are trying to get at here.

I have looked at gamecrafter but this doesn't interest me.. thanks for the link though!

Any ideas about supplementing GC tiles?

The Game Crafter seems to do a nice job with cards, tiles, and boards, from what I've seen. But I don't see much selection in pawns and other tokens, and what I'm looking for is relatively specific. Do you know of any resources that could be used to supplement TGC tiles (in my case) with other materials?

Instead of PnP

The Game Crafter gets a lot of GOOD games that are only PROTOTYPES on The Game Crafter. It's an alternative to PnP... especially when considering *blind* playtesting with prototypes... I don't want to sit there and CUT 100+ cards (if you know what I mean). I have produced 7 prototypes for my current project and let me tell you cutting the cards (even with a paper cutter) is a daunting task.

And so I see The Game Crafter as a way to promote my game for more/future playtesting.

Like I said only 6% of gamers would actually play a PnP game... If you want to broaden your horizons you could explore a LOW PRICE (covering COST + SHIPPING) of your game. And this way your players don't have to spend their time *cutting* cards... And they get a polished looking game.

I only explore TGC as an option for *nice* prototypes (without artwork)... Most of the time, there is always an issue with TGC *restrictions*. For example "Mat size" or not fitting into the box, etc. Or like your case "missing pawns or tokens". That is why it makes their product good for prototyping. You get MOST of what you NEED and then you get the remainder from another source.

BUT I think if you were going to design a PnP game - I would explore TGC as a low-cost alternative for your players... Nobody wants to sit there and cut 100+ cards! I do it for my prototypes (600+ cards) but I'm now ready to use TGC to produce everything but my Mat. The Mat I will produce from home and add it to the prototype... Of course it won't look as good as the cards - but its still is a *prototype*!
