As a young lad I played a fair bit of d&d with my older brothers. Grew up with monopoly and then my older brother bought diplomacy, kingmaker and source of the Nile. Also lots of classic card games. Now 40 years later I have found modern board games. My stepson brought games along one Xmas pandemic ticket to ride carcasson and the resistance.
I have now started my own collection of 5 games...Azul,7wonders,pillars of the earth,Whitehall and the grizzled. Last winter I spent a few weeks designing my own board game about building and fortifying a town in Viking times. I love being creative and always thought that I’d like to design games after building dungeons and designing monsters as a kid.

Welcome to the group

Greetings and welcome. Glad to have another game designer to the site.
Tons of material to read up on, photos to look at and other amazing like minded game designers here from beginners to experts who are involved in the game business and members who sold their games from KS and other media outlets.

Have a seat and enjoy BGDF.

Bows respectively

Hello!

...and welcome to BGDF. :)

I echo Jesse's sentiments. There's a lot to learn from here, and plenty of designers seeking feedback, critique and suggestions on how to make their own prototypes even better. Plenty of successes to celebrate as well.

If you're looking for some critique on your viking settlement game, be sure to post some materials here for folks to review.

Thankyou

I thank you for your welcomes and look forward to joining you in conversations I regarding the designing of board games etc in the appropriate forums. I shall start a thread about the game that I am designing and look forward to hearing from anyone interested.

Kind regards...John

Welcome

Glad to have you here! You have a great start for your collection! If you like Viking themed games, I recommend checking out Inis published by Matagot.

I can't wait to find out more about your game though. I'm glad you found BGDF!

Inis

I’ve not yet seen Inis but will watch a play through on YouTube. My own small group of gamers are not much into backstabbing games which this one looks like it may be. However it certainly would be fine for me????. I will put a post up soon about my game which will have vikings in... but probably more towards the end of the game. The tension will build around trying to get ready for a Viking attack while trying to build a fortified town and move the population from the countryside into town to garrison it while feeding everyone and training everyone so as to get the economy(engine) working well to support spare workers to work in the quarries collecting stone to build stone wall defences towers and a gatehouse. Also iron ore and charcoal for the smelter to make metal for the blacksmith etc etc.
Yes there’s a lot going on, but I’m expecting that a lot of it will be set and forget.
I’m also trying to keep it based on what actually roughly happened in Britain around the end of King Alfred. The building of a Burh (fortified towns)

It is mostly cooperative with each player having their own responsibilities and own tensions... Anyway .... coming soon. Feel free to critique????

Well done... it looks really smart.

It looks like you have put a lot of time and effort into it all. It looks smart and hopefully works well for all ages.

Hey John

Welcome. I am an on again off again contributor to BGDF. As a casual designer with two little ones who keep me busy, I don't get to design as much as I would like. I look forward to reading about your designs.
