I'm currently designing a board game. So I thought it would be a great idea to join this forum and get the advice of people who are probably are lot smarter and more experienced with this sort of stuff than I am!!

Hi Hoost!
It will be hard for me to give you good recommendations based on the liking of two games. Both games are great and have good reputation in the boardgaming community. On the same "weight level" as the games you like I would recommend looking at 7 wonders and Dominion.
What aspects of Settlers of Catan and Tokaido do you like?
If you have not done so, have a look at Board Game Geek where you will find a tremendous amount of games.

I guess it's hard to pin down exactly what I like about those games. In the case of Tokaido, there's something really pleasant and beautiful about the game. It also feels very different from many of the other board games I've played.
On the other hand, Settlers of Catan feels a bit more intense and competitive. I really like the way you gain and use resources, and I also like the types of negotiations and interactions that are encouraged by the game design.
