So this is me - Finally joining the site.

Over the last two(?) years I've been digging into my creative side and exploring the idea of making board games - simply because my mind won't stop coming up with new ideas or improvements whenever I play one or see a review online.

Besides, I'm on disability for physical and social reasons and unable to work a typical job. I hear everywhere that board game design isn't the road to go if you want to be rich - and I'm fine with that. What I do want to do is see if my brain really is working on a design vein, or if I'm just incredibly foolish.

Might I make a game that wins hearts? Then I'll be happy.

Money pit

Game design is a money pit. To make a commercially viable product, you need to invest in it.

Making prototypes is costly, shipping prototypes costs more money... Then you need to invest in more copies of your game because you want people talking about your game.

Plus artwork and graphic design work also cost more money... Like I said, a real money pit. But in my point of view, it's worth every penny I spend! I really enjoy the hobby... and of course want to get my games into public hands...

Well, welcome to the site! It is true that making a commercially viable product costs money at several levels. It is also true that designing a game and solving the problems in the design is both fun and satisfying.

The good news is that at the very beginning you can make a game very cheaply for yourself with paper and bits of this and that. That alone can be satisfying and you can also share the game with your closest friends that way. At that point, based on feedback and how much you've enjoyed the process you can determine whether putting some money in to make it shiny is worthwhile.

In any case, enjoy the adventure.
