Hey everyone, completely new to blogs in general tbh so here we go I guess.

I'm Maritoe and I'm a post 16 student from Bristol studying Physics, Further Maths and Photography (bit of an odd mix I know). I've been dancing about the forum for a few weeks but only just decided to make an account, let's hope it's worth it and you're not all a bunch of yobos and scalliwags.

I've been playing games for ages but only recently started to think about making my own, and the second I did my head just exploded with ideas and now I need to start gathering things together and actually start making some! Which is where I need your help.

I'm here partly as a way of keeping track of ideas, but mainly I'm here for guidance and some advice. So any help would be appreciated, even if it's than I'm a disgrace and should leave the board game culture. I think the thing I'm best at is coming up with themes and maybe some interesting mechanics, but it's getting past that stage which is the hard part right?

Thanks a bunch you scalliwags,
Maritoe:)

Hey Maritoe,

welcome to the bgdf! I am new myself, so maybe we can stick together for a bitand comment on each other's writings.

I'm eager to hear more from you. Here's a link to my first short blog entry, in case you're interested. The second one is already in the making.

Sincerely,

Josh 'Dagar'

Hi there Dagar

Hey Dagar, thanks for the reply:)

Yeah sticking together sounds like a solid plan, I'll be sure to have a look at your post I can't wait to see what it is. I've just put something up myself, it's pretty shakey but the ideas there I guess.

Thanks again, looking forward to everything,
Maritoe

Greetings, Maritoe!

Maritoe,

Welcome to BDGF! As you might have guessed, there's no welcoming committee, but suffice it to say, we're happy you're here as a fellow scaliwag (I'm guessing you realllly like the pirate genre). Anyhoo, I look forward to your posts, and if you have any questions, don't hesitate to post them here or PM the folks with whom you're the most comfortable. as gaming doesn't pay the bills, most folks are not here often or frequent, but it's great to have a place and hang-out, solicit ideas, and generally get a feel for the community of board game designers (and artists, developers, and publishers, but that would make for a really long name).

Cheers,
Joe

Thanks a lot! Any welcome is a wonderful welcome, I'd say I'm more of an early 20th century kind of guybut pirates sure are pretty darn swaav. I'd love to look at what sort of stuff you've done, and I'll probably be asking you some questions about this whole thing haha. Btw whats the art community like on here? Because I'm quite into graphic design and I'm just wandering where I can go to discuss it.

Thanks a bunch,
Maritoe

Modern Day Pirate...

Well, I can't tell you much about the artists out here, but I'm sure they'll be along shortly to introduce themselves. I've play-tested nearly 50 separate "hex and counter" war games for a series of magazines, and am now developing or co-designing three games at the moment. I would certainly look at anything you're proposing, as well.

Cheers,
Joe

Thanks

I'll have a poke around and see what I can find:) Wow! I'm sure you know your stuff then and I'll definitely take a look at what you're working on, I've put a post up about a game I'm starting concerning the 1929 Monaco Grand Prix and I'd love if you could have a look and maybe give feedback / advice?

Thanks a lot,
Maritoe

Welcome to BGDF.

You've come to the right place. What I love about BGDF is that everybody has a variety of opinions on different subjects, and you can easily hear lots of perspectives on each thing you throw out. I've gotten tons of great feedback from the people here as I work on my game, at all levels ranging from design mechanics to piece aesthetics to production and distribution.

Looking forward to working through stuff with you!

Thanks very much for the warm welcome:) I can't wait to get into some good discussions with people about things, a diverse community with diverse opinions is always the best kind.

Thank you LordBrand!

Very interesting

Maritoe,

While racing games are not my genre, your game sounds interesting and exciting.

Cheers,
Joe
