He says hi of course...HI!

So I've just joined, absolute beginner when it comes to game design, no formal qualifications in the subject or any in a creative aspect.

Literally just had a flash of inspiration late at night and spent the last few hours brainstorming leading me to this forum...only to find someone else already came up with basically the same idea...but taken it a lot further, so there's that idea out the window!

Probably lurk around a bit, try and find more inspiration from somewhere and get a bit more active in the future!

What idea was it? Maybe we could help re-skin or change your idea so it becomes yours.

So in my sleep deprived

So in my sleep deprived scibblings, the general premise is it is a cooperative survival board game based on slasher horror films (So after a few hours I found Slasher: The Final Cut and Evil Spares None)...influenced from Last Night on Earth, Dead of Winter and Betrayal at House on the Hill

Thought roughly 3-6 players but open to change depending on if it could support more

Idea is for the players to survive/kill a "slasher" antagonist which is controlled by the game, this antagonist is chosen at the start at random

So to start the game a "scenario" is picked from a list (not sure how many but enough to have replay value). This scenario then gives the objectives and kill conditions which would be unique to each antagonist AND scenario, just so each play through will be different. I was also thinking of having it where the kill objectives are at first unknown but get revealed over time (how I don't really know) and leads to a "reveal" kinda like when The Haunt happens in Betrayal at House on Haunted Hill...so the slasher is revealed for what he is and now he needs to be killed and maybe if it isn't too complicated have some variants of the reveal based off the scenario and the antagonist but I may be way over complicating it now

I was thinking of having a customisable map with different houses or floors depending if I go down the route of a small town or a street or say a university campus/mall and if it's buildable during the game or setup at the beginning

I was going to look into interactions next but got bummed out when I stumbled across the other games...I guess I should just spend the next couple of days fleshing it out and seeing how it goes?

Slasher Game

Hello and welcome, Punkage! :)

There's nothing wrong with coming up with a rough version first to see how it shakes out. Besides, if you're as brand-new as you say, it's worth it just to start practicing the different steps of the "iteration process" even if the end result is that it's not a published game. I would say that the death of many a good game idea is that it never even makes it to the table, since the designer is just planning and planning and planning things in their head and never executes.

So go for it, try it out with your friends, and see what kind of changes you can make as you refine it. Even if it's not a game that's published, any game-making and testing experience will help you learn loads about the process.

Best of success to you!
