Iconography for Fox in the Henhouse

Hen card w/Iconography
The Farm Dog w/Iconography
The Farmer card w/Iconography
The Farmwife card w/Iconography
The Rooster w/Iconography
The Fox w/Iconography

I'm attaching some cards I'll be using in the game Fox in the Henhouse. The cards don't have their main image yet, just background and iconography. I'd love your thoughts on the icons I'm using and whether these symbols communicate how the card should be used after one reads the rule book. Icons should be an effective reminder if used properly.

Card Effects

Fox

Will force you to discard a Hen, if you are currently holding one in your hand. You may not discard the Fox unless you are also holding the Farmer, the Farmer’s Wife, The Farmer’s Dog or the Rooster.

The Farmer

Will allow you to discard the Fox if you currently hold it in your hand.

The Farmer’s Wife

Will allow you to discard the Fox if you currently hold it in your hand. After discarding the Farmer’s Wife all players must choose a card from their Henhouse, without looking at it, and shift it to the player to their left.

The Farmer’s Dog

Will allow you to discard the Fox if you currently hold it in your hand. After discarding the Farmer’s Dog that player may swap two facedown cards of their choice without looking at them.

Rooster

Will allow you to discard the Fox if you currently hold it in your hand. The Rooster also negates the value of any Hen in the Henhouse with it.

Hens

Are worth points.

(only 1 example of the Hen cards was posted here. The others are identical but have 1, 2 or 3 eggs instead of 4)

Cool..

I like how you've designed these. Very nice.

However, a couple of points (just my opinion)

I do think the backgrounds are a bit busy. Some elements could be toned done a bit. I realise that the diamonds give the field a bit of perspective but it's a bit noisy. Maybe use a gradient instead?

Also, the eggs in the icons, could be more egg shaped rather than ovals. Like the touch of texture you added to them.

Again, just my 2 cents.

Hope it all goes well for you.

George

Good suggestions

Thanks for the feedback! I see what you mean with the business of the field. I may try the gradient option to see how that looks. I'm also curious to see how much of the field gets covered by the main image once I add them, which may help as well.

I'll try out some alternate egg icons as well.

Thanks!

No problem. Look forward to

No problem. Look forward to seeing the development!

Very Nice!

I love the use of icons to make the game more language independent!

Good show Sir!

Sorry I have not tested the game yet, might have to wait for the weekend.

Thank you!

No worries! Life is busy, especially during the week. No pressure; I'm just stoked that you are willing to play it!

I'm glad you like the idea of using icons. I wrestled with this for a long time and decided this was the best way to go. I just hope the icons are communicating what I want them to.

Thanks!
