Fleshing out the world of Sweet Saga

'sicled Knight
Mad Confectionarian
soda pop potions, and the claw of Cacao

The world of Sweet Saga is coming together brilliantly! When we began with the initial concepts for the characters, setting, and story for the game it was a struggle to visualize it very clearly, but as we push on with the card illustrations the world is taking on a life of its own.

Take the latest card art for example. The card is for an enemy known as a 'Mad Confectionarian'. Our illustrator began drawing him and it seemed fitting to have him holding a little candy creature... that candy creature, and the little cupcake on his shoulder are sweet sprites. They can be found throughout the game and sacrificed for bonuses or to do damage to an enemy. This adds a whole new element to the game and the game world.

Also, as the illustrations continue, so too does the fleshing out of the four areas in the game:

Lala Land: Sweeping plains with rock qandi cliffs jutting out on the horizon. Those who live and work in this world chop down large Lollipops to use to make their homes, armor, weapons, and much more.

Fudge Brownie Bayou: An overgrown swamp region filled with witches, snakes, and fudge monsters. Players here will fight sorcery that can flip the game on its head in an instant. they'll also discover hidden treasure once lost to the ages...

Cherrytop Tundra: A cold, forbidding land of ice cream that will turn the unwary into a living popsicle. The Cremerians call this place their home, and they've joined the King to hunt down every last dreamer.

The Frosted Throne: This is where much of the King's gingerbread army trains and waits for the eventual occupation of the other realms of the Sweetly Kingdom. Here you will encounter every level of gingerbread warrior, enormous jawbreakers that will crush every last bone in your body if you let them, and the Mad King himself.

Right now the focus is on enemy cards and some simple encounters. We're still working to flesh the story out more before moving on to creating encounter cards that weave that story into the gameplay. So far we're still on track to complete the game sometime next year. You can follow the progress on Facebook- www.facebook.com/sweetsagagame

I think a good theme for the enemy characters would be SOUR, because sweet and sour are complimentary opposites :)

I'm not sure how the game works, but if it has a currency (like MTG uses mana) you could play to the sweet theme and use DECAY.

Every time a character uses an action they cause the world to decay (too many sweets cause tooth decay).

Naturally, you would need something to reverse decay as well.

Hmmm... I will have to consider incorporating 'sourness' into the game more.

There were plans to have a currency (lemon drops) in the game, but it was one of the features taken out to keep the game from getting overly complicated. Who knows, though. It may have to be put back in at some point.

I haven't really gone into detail with the gameplay yet because it isn't really the area I, myself, am focused on, but let me see if I can at least explain how we level.

Players move through four different areas in the game, which act as different levels. Enemies in the first level are easier than in the final level. The way we level up the character is through the treasure they find along the way. Weapons in the last level are more powerful than those in the first.

It will take a great deal of play testing to figure out if this system is even possible, but so far that's what we're going with. What we know so far is that we definitely want items/weapons, encounter (story) cards, and obviously enemies in the game. Pretty much everything else is kind of in flux right now.
