No Wonder!

You know, I write essays to word counts all the time, and I've never mistaken character for word count--which is obviously what I've done.

My first pass at an outline was about 5 times longer than what's here. I then spent two hours whittling it down to 500 words... uh, characters. Then copy and pasted a couple entries here into word and AGAIN read character instead of word count. Clearly I've managed to suffer some form of head injury without noticing.

original entry

Although it's too late for the challenge I would love to read your original entry

Me Too.

I didn't keep the original. I just kept editing it down. The basic trick of it is constructing pieces such that opportunities to place new pieces grow more and more scarce as turns go on, eventually resulting in a turn where a player cannot play on their turn, signaling the end of the game (or in Hegelian terms, the end of knowledge). The rest was just trying to make that, in some sense, more fun. My original concept imagined pieces that were thematically tied to classic political and social disputes (probably satirical in character), but I hadn't fleshed that out in a coherent way.

I'll try again with something else next month.

Bad Form?

Hey, is it bad form to revive the critiques thread for a two month old GDS? Anyway, this game on kickstarter made me think of Ender Poets. https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/dejobaan/elegy-for-a-dead-world-a-g...

It's a game where you write stories about dead civilizations.
