I finally got the time to do the first playtest of the game! I updated the art as I went along (very quick drawings for now). As the illustrations were added, the game seemed more real. Of course there are a ton of oversights in the game rules that I had to adjust, but a few new interesting ideas came out of it, such as the Alchemist.

Alchemist Role: crafts poisons that may be used against other players. Poisons are not present in the game until crafted.

Secret Role Choice: players choose their roles in secret, so their motives are not known right away.

Thanks everyone for the advice in my previous, especially lewpuls. Calling me out on being a dilettante really made me analyze myself.

Hopefully throughout the next week I can playtest by myself a few more times and then show it to a few friends.

What'd you learn?

Why'd you add the Alchemist and secret roles? What did you feel was lacking? What omissions did you find in your initial playtests?

The feel of the game as it

The feel of the game as it stood didn't "evolve" between the beginning and the end. You just keep playing cards that always seem to "weigh" the same. This was the biggest issue I noticed right when I first started playing. It just didn't feel right.

Adding the Alchemist at least made it a bit more interesting, so towards the end of the game there would be more ways to sabotage players if so desired.

Choosing roles secretly allows players to make decisions that sometimes can have adverse affects. This way, players can't make a known "safe" choice really ever. I haven't tested this one much yet, and am not sure if it will make the final cut or not.

I also was thinking of adding Guards. They could be "purchased" with favor (or possibly another form of currency, but don't want to make game too complex) to protect you from certain sabotages (most likely daggers).

All in all, the game is still very much in infancy. I think it will turn into something interesting, but needs a lot more love put into it.
