Hello everyone!

My name is Angel, I go by the username Radio Prime and I am a game design student studying at Norco City College. I've decided to join this community because it seems like an amazing place to speak with designers about board games! I am currently designing board games, making my way up to video games and will enjoy asking for advice as well as providing any help to others who are looking for it. I look forward to discussing design with you all and I hope I can learn and grow with you all!

Welcome!

Radio Prime,

I don't know the ratio of students-to-non-students of game design on the site, but something tells me that many of us are simply passionate about the hobby we love so very much. Of course, passion doesn't equal talent...I love the sound of the piano, but that doesn't make me a pianist. It's exciting to have a student out here with us, along with those who are "experts" in the area, as there's ever-developing theory on game play, mechanics, etc, that we would all benefit from learning a bit more.

We certainly look forward to your contributions, and hope you find hat you're looking for on BGDF, as well.

Cheers,
Joe

I taught game classes there back in 2010. If you're in the game major, you've probably have heard my name or we've met and I just don't remember you.

My name is Jay :)

Thanks for the welcoming Daggar!

Radioactivemouse thats crazy! What a coincidence that I'd meet someone from Norco here. Unfortunately I started attending Norco College during the Fall of 2013 so I don't believe I have met you or attended one of your classes. What courses did you happen to teach?

IcePeddlerGames well I have taken an introductory class to Game Design which used board games to teach a majority of principles related to design and I am planning to take a Digital Game Design course in the next few weeks.

I have also taken classes in other fields related to Game Development like Programming and Digital Art. I also spend a lot of time reading and watching design documents, blogs, and analysis reports on Gamasutra, GDC Vault, Extra Credits and their Game Designer's Club Twitch Stream, and any other site I come up across. This is the newest site I have had the opportunity to take part in and I am currently enjoying the discussion I have had here and look forward to further discussions in the future!

If you've ever heard of the times when the Game Designers Club went to E3, GDC, and held weekly board game nights...that's what I did. Since I was let go, the club diminished and the community wasn't the same. I grew that club to one of the biggest on campus. Now I do it at the school I teach now. You might have heard of Boom Ninja...I was the lead game designer.

Ask around about me. Many of the teachers that teach there know who I am. Some of the senior students remember me.

I taught 3d animation and Intro to the Game Industry.

Good luck in your time there.

Oh I do definitely remember

Oh I do definitely remember hearing about that and that club. I started attending Norco around the time it was renamed to D.O.G.? or something along those lines and I even attended a meeting or two but it eventually fell apart from lack of leadership which sucks cause it was cool. I heard before it diminished they were able to attend GDC next of 2014 in San Francisco.

That is pretty cool I've also heard a lot about Boom Ninja although that's the only notable game I've seen around Norco lately.

I can try asking around I know a couple of the senior students who are graduating, I think this semester and the next. I also know James Finely and Judy Perry and I'm currently working with Jeff Clendenning each of whom I can ask and see if they know or remember you.

Well I'm glad to meet your acquaintance, that's a pretty cool track record for a teacher! Was there any reason to your departure from Norco?

I was not given a clear reason why I was let go. I have theories, but they're just that. James definitely knows who I am. If you ask Colin, he knows me. Same for Gil.

I appreciate the sentiments about my track record. To be honest, I was doing things to be best of my ability. Now I'm at a new campus. I learned from Norco and I've made it even better where I'm at. Plus, I teach way more often, which is what I've wanted anyways.

It's always a shame when a teacher is dropped from the program. And its a shame I didn't get to meet the teacher behind a lot of advancements made to the school program.

I will try to ask him when I see him for one of my courses. I have had Gil and Colin before but I don't know if they recall me.

Well I'm glad you are happy with where your career has landed you, sounds like you've made great progress for yourself!

I look forward to discussing design with you and with everyone else on this site!
