Some comments on the Print-n-Play rules

Some comments on the Print-n-Play rules:

There is a Fireball Reflex on page 1. Should that be a Combo?
There is a Flickering Ember Reflex on page 1. Should that be a Combo?
Return to Cinder: looks pretty overpowered.
Spontaneus Combustion: The ordering of target selection could be critical.
Counter Attack: "take control of" is not defined in the rules.

There are a number of cards which look pointless or very weak: Gas Masquerade Ball, Headbut, Wind Sock, Whirlwind of Change, etc. Why do they exist in the deck, and why would anybody play them?

The rules are unclear about whether you can continue playing Combat/Combo cards if your opponent does not block.

In the section on Calculating Combat Damage, the 2nd and last sentences are contradictory. I assume that the last sentence is correct, in which case the 2nd sentence should be reworded.

As a general note, the rules encourage ganging up because of the way that defenses work. Once a player has been targeted (and played all their defenses) they are a prime target for every other player until they draw their hand up at the start of their next turn. I'm not sure that this is a good mechanic.

It is a pity that there are no rules for deck building or customization. I can see that you wanted to move away from the focus on deck construction in MTG and other similar games (and I'm not suggesting that you should have copied them), but I suspect that this game is going to feel somewhat restrictive and have limited replayability given only 4 decks to choose from. Instead of letting me experiment with the cards to find my preferred strategy, the game designers have given me 4 pre-canned strategies to pick from. Even then approximately half of the cards in each deck are the same and even some of the "unique" abilities are duplicates with different names.

I think that anyone who has been exposed to a deck construction game is going to feel frustrated at being forced to include worthless cards in their deck. For example, the first set of combat cards are evenly matched at 7 points spread between attack and defense. So far so good. But then you have a set of worthless combat cards (1/2, 2/1, etc) and overpowered combat cards (6/6).

On the plus side, I like the double use of the Fusion cards so that they are worth having in hand both at the start and the end game. Also given that it is a player elimination game, I like that the Fusion power builds up to hasten the end-game. If players must sit out, you want them to sit out for as little time as possible. The absense of healing powers is also a good decision as it prevents a stalemate.

kos

After seeing the videos...

This game kind of reminds me of the game Blue Moon Legends. It's basically a one-up battle that' similar to yours, except your game has a little more room for combos.

Still, I'll have to see the print-and-play to accurately asses the game. At first glance it may really drag for the loser if the winner suddenly takes a huge lead. Then it's just more of a "waiting to die" scenario.

But I'll have to play the game to see.

Good luck guys!

"Community" FIRST!

The thing that you seem to not grasp is this is a "community" Forum. We're here to help each other out by asking and answering questions regarding the games we are working on.

We're not a forum that is supposed to "pledge support" just because the only contribution you bring to this "community" are threads about your OWN game...

But in all fairness you aren't the only person who does this. Veldriss also has a thread somewhere about MedioEvo Universalis. That's all he ever talks about: HIS board game. He hardly contributes to other threads also... (http://www.bgdf.com/forum/game-creation/prototyping/medioevo-universalis)

When are you planning to "actively contribute" to this community???

So there I have put you in contact with another member who talks solely about HIS game and nothing else... Do you think it works?

@Soulfinger: You brought up the point: "does anyone read this hype type of postings"??? Yeah sometimes we do... I like to see what other people are up to. Doesn't mean everyone feels the same way! :|

Incorrect assumption

Why do you assume this? If you follow the various videos, somebody says that on ONE (1) turn a player did 46 damage (out of 100). This doesn't mean that his opponent cannot deal 50+ damage on the NEXT turn... It depends on the nature of your cards, the cards the opponent has. Just because it is not perfectly balanced doesn't mean that the combos in the game can't make it more exciting to score high damage rounds?!

You're not out of the game - unless you lose all 100 health points!

Don't assume you have lost, it doesn't appear that in GA you can't come back and defeat your opponent with an even better hand!

The game has become more balanced since the beta version print and play and I think you'll really like the final version. Thank you for the good luck! I hope you enjoy the print and play when you get a chance to play it :D
