Greetings game designers.

My name is Seth, and I have just started working on my first game. I am a graduate student in marine ecology, but my real interest is in informal (outside of the classroom) education. I hope to use my games to teach people various concepts in biology, ecology, conservation, etc. I have a few ideas that will be great for classroom aides, and others that should appeal to experienced gamers. If a player walks away from one of my games having learned something, then I've done my job.

I stated playing games when I was about 5 or 6. In those days Mousetrap was my absolute favorite, so it's maybe no surprise that I like games with lots of bits (thanks Fantasy Flight). I've since gotten into just about every genre of gaming out there (CCGs, boardgames, miniatures games, RPGs) thanks to a 40% employee discount at a game store. These days I mostly stick to board games, as grad school demands most of my time (and has killed my disposable income).

Looking forward to getting to know this community, and working with you to make some great games!

Welcome to BGDF!

Seth,

It's always great to have a newcomer to the Forum. Definitely take the time to engage in conversations...we're not at all formal, so no need for any other introductions. Check out the threads, make a constructive comment or two, and certainly offer your thoughts on the industry, especially any games you might have in mind to develop in the future.

Cheers,
Joe

Thanks Joe. I'm a total noob

Thanks Joe. I'm a total noob at creating games (just started my first ever), but I'll contribute where I can.

I'm currently working on a game about nature preserves/parks that will demonstrate some basic principles of ecology. I have a lot more ideas, but I need to focus on just one for now.

Glad to meet you!

Welcome Seth!

I too am new to BGDF, and while I'm a seasoned toy designer with over 15 years in the business working for major manufacturers and invention companies, I've recently really gotten into the wonderfully deep ocean that is tabletop gaming.

I'm really looking forward to lending any help I can to our fellow designers as well as getting some great feedback on my own designs...and the bigger our community, the stronger!

Welcome to BGDF! I'm a noob that is trying to design a game for educational purpose as well. And my very first game that I'm working on right now is about showing people some basic applications of chemical elements. Good luck with your game design and hope you enjoy the BGDF community. I know I do :D

That sounds very intriguing. As an undergraduate I double majored in biology and chemistry, so I would be interested in a game about elements.
