Say it isn't so.....!

Hockey-teams.jpg

Now Aussie Rules or Cycling may not appeal to many folks here...but if these concept card don't tickle a Nth American's love of beer, toques and hockey.....then you're an imposter :)

I'd love some feedback / design comments on these. Not confirmed, Pocket Sports Hockey may have resurfaced!

Cubes will track goals. Rather than using a timer or stopwatch, the first team to score 6 goals (or whatever you nominate) wins.

Power Play durations last until a goal is scored or 3 Saves or missed shots (turnovers) are accrued.

The concept here is for players to be able to mix & match International games.

An idea for you...

Since you seem to have a good grasp on Sport Games, my suggestion or idea would be something like this:

Create a Pocket Sports Hockey game that uses REAL HOCKEY CARDS.

So make the game with whatever additions LESS the player image and use card stands to keep track of each player's position.

Although this is a DEVIATION from your current plans - don't you think kids will love a game they can play with REAL SPORTS CARDS???

And it could use dice and a penny (or dime) as a puck...

I had been working on this idea and I can share with you my thoughts if you are interested... Maybe you could design such a game! And kids all over the world will thank you!!!

Because now when they buy HOCKEY CARDS, they know they can also play a GAME with them! See how cool that is?!?!

PM me if you want to discuss further. I'm not sure I have my notes on the game anymore...

Don't be a hoser eh!

Sounds interesting, but

Sounds interesting, but keeping the 'pocket' theme going with Pocket Sports, cards with stands and pennies clutter the game and slow the play.

I also want to create our own range of cards :) All purely experimental though.....

It would kind of a cool promo though to do your own trading cards of invented sports personas, collect all 12 with one random included in each Pocket Sports pack, maybe themed like the old Topps wacky cards or GW's Bloodbowl characters (Cyclist, Matt Martigan, has a bike chain-powered chainsaw mounted at the front of his bicycle. Also, he has herpes, but you don't need to know about that). Have a con exclusive card and what-not.

You missed my point

That kind of was my point: people already collect hockey cards and can't do anything with them.

Creating more hockey cards isn't going to solve the problem or add MORE FUN to the collectible aspect of those cards.

Since you are so knowledgeable in creating "Pocket Sport" games, I figured you might want to consider doing something more *interesting* (for kids that collect Hockey Cards)...

I'm open to all ideas. That's

I'm open to all ideas. That's for sure.

I'll see how these next couple of games go with the cards (4 or 5 only) and gauge the response.

Feedback from customers gives a good guideline on how I can make subtle change and additions to new games. The inclusion of cards also keeps the series evolving and is a fresh add on from a design point of view.

That's the idea anyway :)

Collectible Card Aspect

What I was trying to get at is this:

  • If I have a "Sidney Crosby" card (Pittsburgh Penguins) but I have a roster of Montreal Canadians, I could CHOOSE to TRADE "Sidney Crosby" in return for let's say three (3) Montreal Canadians.
  • With the collectible aspect, I would NEVER do that. "Sidney Crosby" is too valuable.
  • BUT because I COULD PLAY A GAME with my Montreal Canadians, I would want to complete the Montreal Roster in order to PLAY the GAME!

Now do you understand what I mean? I'm trying to ADD VALUE to EXISTING Hockey cards and have people trade cards to complete rosters.

Of course, you could play an ALL STAR game - and then have rules like East vs. West... And of course it would be probably easier playing that kind of game...

Update: Tournaments could be like PLAYOFFS for the Stanley Cup.
