Hey guys,

I'm 40 soon (omfg), finishing a PhD in nanotechnology (environmental catalaysis using in-situ TEM), and games are a big passion of mine. I'm actually from Oregon but I've lived in Denmark most of my adult life.

I finally got around to building a board-game, and having lurked around the net for some time I have to say that this is one of the more useful online resources that I have found. So I am looking forward to joining the discussions.

What can I bring?

Well I'm new to the world of game-design, but in my work I am intimately involved with many similar or parallel concepts. Rate flows and process diagrams, information tracking, optimization, statistics, modelling, and programming are my bread and butter.

What am I doing?

I've got a hex-based army-building 4x style game with a classic tolkien/DnD theme that combines a few of my favorite aspects of various games while working to maintain game balance, marketing optimization, and above all else fun, while at the same time keeping things as simplified as possible and solving what I see as some of the major shortcomings of those same source-games.

I spent a very long time thinking over basic concepts and goals, and this started to coalesce into a game-core sometime last year, at which point I chose a theme and started to work out the core mechanics. Now I am up and running with a pretty decent prototype, and am in the process of adding layers of content so that I can ruthlessly pull them back down until I am satisfied.

So yeah, hi =D

Greetings

Welcome to the BGDF!

It sounds like you will be right at home here, and I look forward to hearing more about this game of yours and because you have a prototype I would also love to see some pictures. It is sort of rare to see early versions of games, even on this forum.

This is a fun and rewarding hobby, the more I give to it them more I get back.

With your PhD in nanotechnology and what sounds like a firm grasp of the way board games require a lot of work and much testing and development, you should do quite well.

I hope to get to know you more as time goes by.

-Eamon
