I'm anxious to get some feedback on the rough cut of my Kickstarter video...it's less than 2-1/2 minutes, and I'd appreciate all thoughts, criticisms and impressions!

Thanks all!

Pretty solid, thought it was annoying to hear everything out of my right earphone.

Thanks Colonel! There are issues with the audio; all should be fixed, along with some light after-effects, in the next round. Just gotta make sure the flow, communication and tone is heading in the right direction!

What did you think of the music...does it fit the type of game? Feels a bit "epic" to me, but maybe it works...I'm not certain.

Scrambo

Chris,

Your video looked pretty good. I think that the content was good, I liked learning how to play and watching game-play. At the end, the sound of the game and the "testimonials" were good. The music was "epic", but I think that it fit fine. The movie made me think two things: how much and when will this launch? Why? Because I want a copy. Nice job!

Thanks MAR! I agree the music

Thanks MAR! I agree the music works. just wonder if it's the best match. Can't say I'm not happy with it!

I expect the final cut of the video to be ready by early August, then at least a month of marketing to further build an audience, and target 30-day campaign launch of October/November.

Scrambo will be $12 for the standard game, $15 for the KS exclusive "Chrome Edition" and I'm offering a 3-pack of the standard for $30 ($6/20% off).

The video looks good. But as you know, some people don't watch video and rely solely on the content of the KS page and how it is laid out. So don't bet everything based on the video...

I can't predict how well you will do... because you are doing this 100% on your own (which is commendable - yet scary too!)

I think you should work on the KS page and do a preview with the other designers and let everyone critique the page before going Live! I mean I don't think there are too many "gamers (or non-designers) that lurk around BGDF just to see the KS previews (to my knowledge - that is not a thing!) Anyways if you want to share the KS page -- feel free to do so.

No pressure. If you would rather keep it under the wraps... again no problem. But it could help to have a few designers have a look at the content, reward tiers, etc.

Some ADVICE: get people TALKING about your game. Early on, just after LAUNCH, do a "Game Update #1" and start talking about SOMETHING. See if you can get EARLY backers to start discussions about the game, about your design process, the journey with Scrambo... Things like that...

No talk = no backers: 0 updates + 0 comments = 0 customers.

So make sure you have that $1 Pledge level, just so people can post comments and ask questions. See if you can deliver content which is ENGAGING too...

Best of luck(?!) to you Chris.

Thanks Kris! I will

Thanks Kris! I will absolutely post a complete page preview once the video is ready; I'm in no rush to launch as I want to make sure I do as much beforehand to help make it a success, and that includes getting some valuable "pro" insights from this community and those who have found success on KS like yourself.

The page build is almost done (images, info, reviews, etc), I just need the video. I'll post as soon as it's fully assembled so you guys can see the final campaign before it goes live.

I hadn't planned on the $1 pledge level, but it does make sense to broaden the conversation. I think I'll add it. I also plan on being as open and available as possible, which will include regular updates and perhaps expanding the campaign page contents (like if I'm lucky enough to wind up on the Dice Tower Kickstarter update).

Donations occur too!

With "TradeWorlds" ... some backers were just having a ball talking about all kinds of things from other KS campaign they have backed, to games they like to play, miniature games you just got to love, etc.

Their GOAL was simple: keep the comments up HIGH to ensure that we are on the Top 20 on Kicktraq list of Hotest games.

And yeah, it worked, we hung around #15 for quite a long time... The things you learn (and from your own backers!)

You definitely want that $1 pledge ... even though now KS allows you to just DONATE "money" without a tier... Before the $1 pledge was like a "catch-all" where someone could choose it, get in on the conversation and figure out what they want to buy.

But anyways the $1 tier is getting to be more of a relic... but people still like to choose that reward, get-in on the conversation and then up their pledge. Sometimes it's just a question of donating to the KS. We had someone just donate $100... at the $1 reward level...

You never know what you'll get when the KS is Live!

KS Preview

Yes, please do post a preview here. I am looking to be along the same timeline as you in regards to game development- I would love to look over your preview and would also like to learn the insights of others about that. Keep us posted!

This was the only thing that stood out. I think the music sounds far too epic for something this light. Otherwise, it's really great. Good job!

Thanks Squinshee! I think the editor wanted music that reflected the tension players experience in the game, but it feels more like a dungeon crawl soundtrack that a brain-burner. I've challenged him to find some options.

If anyone has a suggestion for a style or reference song, let me know!

New music...maybe??!!

It's definitely lighter...but I'm still not sure it's just right. What do you all think? Who knew music would be so tough to match???

Find your own...

Check out "Music Loops" for an awesome library of pay to use songs in videos, online, presentation, etc.

http://www.musicloops.com

I kinda like these two ... The first one is a little more "background music" and the second one is a bit more "up tempo".

But check out this website and find something awesome. I'm sure you will.

Cheers!

Thanks Kris! I've never looked into music really so these resources are awesome...may be worth its own thread for those looking for low-cost royalty-free music for their projects.

Here's what I found that I think works:

You may also notice some light effects added to the new video...it's almost done! I think with this new track added, it'll be ready to drop into the campaign page for a complete look-over by you guys!

Yeah that sounds funky and fresh...

That Audio Jungle tune sounds pretty good. Much more suited than the other two songs. Just didn't know if you had a website for audio...

I've used Music Loops a few times already.

But so far, the tune I like the best is your "Furious and Fast" song.

Cheers.

Well done

Chris,

The video has a great pacing to it...from the initial scene where everyone is clearly having a great time to the more subdued period where you provide all of the necessary information about the game. If I had two things to critique... First, you show the box on the table at 1:00:28, but the word SCRAMBO on top of the box is facing away from the viewer which struck me as peculiar. Second, the dice appear to have stickers, which I hope is only for the prototype, as that's definitely a no-no these days.

Otherwise, it looks great and fun.

Cheers,
Joe

Hey Joe, The dice will

Hey Joe,

The dice will absolutely be engraved and painted resin...no way am I going to deliver stickered dice after all this! Unfortunately I'd made these before TGC offered their custom engraving service, but I've made sure to mention in the campaign that the dice will be engraved. I'll probably mention it a few times on the page, and repeatedly in the comments!
