Should every game of considerable length have a quick run-through section

Quick run-through is you have a bare-bones description of how to play the game at the start of the game guide. You should include how to roughly play through all stages of the game including what the "final" goal so the players have some idea about what the whole game is about and you start to introduce basic terminology and include some selling of the theme if possible. But I don't see this included much- why? If more games for review had this then they'd get more feedback. If the game is so simple to describe that one page then you just write that.

On page.

If it takes one page to write your rules for the game then it takes one page. You don't have to strech it out to make it longer.

As an example, my game Cup 'N' BowL only took up half an index card for the rules. It was simple and to the point but it still explained everything.

So, do you have to complicate the rule book to make I longer? No. No you don't. Make it a long as it takes.

Coolio.

He is asking why are there no quick review or demo play or tutorials like in arcade video games that are not in board and card games.

You could add this feature in at game shops or comic con conventions or other venues for players see how the game is played before a long run demo or live.

Like showing the setup of a game and showcase two or three runs / plays / turns or attacking and defending. That is all what this person does at these venues. At the other table, the live in game is being played by those who have watched the quick run through demo style.

The demoer' (not a real word) can showcase different turn phases, cooldown phases, etc.

It depends on

It depends on the type of game genre/theme.

A Dual Fighting Card Game.
A Racing Simulator Card Game.
A Sports Card Game.
An Abstract Card Game.
A First Person Shooter Card Game.
An Aircraft Card Game.

This is for the many games with long guidebooks

Thanks for your reply. Not quite sure what you saying here. There are many games that have long rulebooks e.g. Official rules for Monopoly are 2700 words plus all the cards included yet it has only an object at the start- it pretty much assumes you have seen and have a general understanding of the game. To someone totally unfamiliar with it, I'd want a quick description on how to play it.

My go at a quick description: You roll a dice and move around a board. You have money and use it buy/item items and there is interaction with other players and this thing called the bank. Various cards affect the result. You aim to get the most money.

Oh. Well. *slowly leaves room*

Well then... Thought it was something else. I apologise.

I'm tired though. Lol.

Still a good argument for another topic.

Great. Maintenant, c'est gênant.
