Hey everyone,

My background is in production and editing. Audio and Video. I worked in the radio industry for 7 years as a commercial producer before quitting my job and starting a company with my wife. You can see some of my recent board game related works here:
www.onewolf.ca/kickstarter

I have always wanted to design a game and now I am designing my first one called "Tiny Ninjas" and setting a launch date for February 2018 to allow myself ample time to build the campaign. Man o man, it's a lot of work doing it all on your own!! The logistics of manufacturing and fulfillment are enough to make your head spin!

I do have an awesome artist I'm working with, but other than that I'm a one man army. You can check out some details of the game here:
www.tinyninjas.ca

If anyone is interested in helping me playtest Tiny Ninjas, feel free to send me a message at 'info@tinyninjas.ca'. If you playtest a bunch and provide me some feedback I'll be happy to print your name in the rulebook! :)

Anyways - looking forward to chatting with you all more and learning as much as I can!

Cheers,
Ryan

Welcome to BGDF and good luck

Welcome to BGDF and good luck with your endeavor.

I've taken a quick look at your Tiny Ninjas video.

The problem I`m having with it is that there's too many cool graphics, music and transitions, yet barely any game-play is shown.
After watching it, I've got little knowledge of what sort of game it is.

I completely agree with this. Though the voice and video part of your presentation is all excellent, I don't have any idea what kind of game it is or whether it would be something I'd consider. This video is where you could provide a hook for your game.

Welcome and good luck with your game! I like your website! As others have said, your video is feels more like a cool advertisement than anything else. It's lacking game play footage or how-to-play animations so it's a little hard to determine what the game is like or if it's even the type of game I enjoy and that would affect my interest in backing your game on Kickstarter. It looks cool though and would be great as an additional video to show off the art!

Fantastic feedback, thank you both so much!
You are both 100% correct... and I will definitely be doing a revised version of the video including some gameplay/component shots.

Here is a question though - I do have a prototype made from The Game Crafter, however, the quality of it is quite far from how I envision the final manufactured game looking like. Would I be doing myself more harm showing off too much of this initial prototype and having people think that's what the final version is going to look like? I want to 'tease' the game as much as possible, and give people an idea of how it will look/operate, but don't want them thinking it's going to be a very low quality product as it may appear from my current prototype.

A huge part of my game is the fact that the box clips together and the game is playable inside the box. Highlighting that will be huge but I'm a bit worried that I shouldn't really be showing that off until I have a full quality prototype from my actual manufacturer.

I just looked at your sites and videos. As others have pointed out, the art is great, as is the production. The lack of game-play or at least components is a turn off, for me anyways. But, this is a hype video for 2018 after-all, so its not bad. If you prepare a few game pieces or images for another hype video closer to your launch date, it will help. However, for your actual kickstarter video, that should have a complete game-play video with your "official" prototype.

On another note- your website is nice and I like your logo. Also, your videos seem well made. Good luck, keep us posted :)

Here's an example of a few videos that really impressed me. The first doesn't show actual game components but it does give a feeling for the game. The 2nd video down the page does show game components but also uses various complementary effects that help the watcher to understand the game better. https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/certifiablegames/endangered-orphans...

Hopefully that will help.

The current video I have is merely a teaser. My actual Kickstarter video will be much better :)

Side note: Just ported my game to Tabletopia last night. So cool to play it online! Tabletopia is such a wicked platform
