Hey guys,

I am new to this forum (though I have been designing games for a few years now). I am also a software engineer by day.

I am starting to think that I should make a tool to help game designers in their quest to design games, but I am not sure yet what to make.

I want to post a link to a poll which I am using to try and gather this info, but I am not sure where I should post it.

Any ideas?

Is this sort of thing looked down upon here?

(I don't want to be a jerk or anything)

Thanks!

Mike

balance?

Hi Mike,

I guess you could post this kind of ideas in design theory :).
I am new here as well, joined long time ago buy I was busy with various projects.Only recently went back seriously to the board game design.

I have been thinking of using software in a limited way, only to simplify few aspects of the game which make it much longer than they should. For example if software reduces game time by 1H without actually playing the game on it (let's say it only calculates your revenue each turn or it does quick calculation to resolve combat) then, that would be a super useful software.

In my opinion, software integration in board games should be limited because otherwise it might go towards video games again, where people watch the screens more than interact directly with each other. That's kind of what I am trying to avoid. Average human spends already way too much time in front of screens :).

As far as tools are concerned there are already some. Can use tabletop simulator or other software more oriented towards card game design.

Cheers,
Jasen
