Overview of the game content

Yupp,
that dude again who wants to launch a kickstarter campaign.

That's right. But be reassured! It is not the average overloaded massiv complex strategy game. This time the game is quite simple, clear and just intuitive to play. I am talking about my two player card game which only takes about 10 minutes to play one round.
You can even play it with standard playing cards at your home without ordering material. But i have difficulties to get that point along - making people clear that it doesn't take much time to review my game. But it absolutely need one or the other review to launch a kickstarter campaign. Even if the game is easy and the it only needs 3.200€ to get funded.
So this is where you come into play. Do you have the time to understand the rules (not even 10 minutes) play the game (maybe 15 minutes) and write a short review (10 minutes)? It would mean so much to me.

The game's name is Squeeze and it is about you as a small entrepreneur who tries to get big in the lemonade business. You start with you poor self-made lemonade stand and upgrade you business (production, marketing and staff) by getting certain gadget und upgrade cards. If one of your niches is bigger than the one of the opponent you get an advantage which makes the game interesting. You get these cards by winning short card duels against the other player. Often the game takes a surprising twist which always leads to a spectacular showdown.

So if you are interested in the rules or even in reviewing the game you can just reply to this thread.
Feedback is always welcome :).

Cheers Leon

So if you can play the game

So if you can play the game with playing cards then why should someone pay $15 to get this game on Kickstarter?

Thematic deck

My guess is because you BUY the "stylized" deck of cards rather than using plain Playing Cards which are less thematic... And $15 USD for a customized set of playing cards is not unreasonable. While you can buy less expensive decks at the Dollar Store ($1.25 or so), they are not the same quality as the "Casino" Bee Playing Cards you find at the Toy Store.

Those Bee Cards go for $8. But you get better quality and more durable cards especially if you are shuffling a lot (which you normally do with games such as Poker, Bridge, Hearts, Blackjack, et al.)

True. Perhaps it would be

True. Perhaps it would be worth it if the cards have some pretty cool artwork on them. If the game is simply playing cards with the artwork found on the OP image, I think it will have a difficult time getting funded. But perhaps that is just the prototype artwork in which case I'd just have to wait and see.

Good point you have

Good point you have there.
The version with the Doppelkopf cards is just the "basic" game.
On Kickstarter will be the version with a few stretch goals and expansions (about 4 more cards).
Moreover as said, there i can design the cards so they fit in the lemon-topic.

In addition to that, i did not design the artwork of the cards on purpose, because i want to integrate my backers in this process. I want to create the game with my backers and not just for them.

The game with all stretch goals will cost 12€.

Here are the rules if you guys are interested:

That's pretty expensive...

I just checked on "The Game Crafter" (TGC) and a CUSTOM deck of Playing cards sells for $7.99 USD. Here is the link:

http://www.thegamecrafter.com/custom-playing-cards

You may want to use TGC for their Custom Playing cards... At least check it out! And BTW from the TGC price at $7.99 is your COST. You can decide to make some profit and sell your deck for $11.99 and still be LESS expensive than your 14 euros...

Cheers.

Note: Shipping is extra - but TGC ships wordwide too...

The Game Crafter seems like an excellent option for something like this. Cards are one thing The Game Crafter does quite well.

That's actually not what i

That's actually not what i want. I want to offer more than just some desultory created poker cards.

I want to give my backers the opportunity to design the cards together so the game will feel like something they created if they play it later.
Moreover as i said there will be a few extra cards in the game.

Depending on how many people are going to pledge i will print about 200 copies for like 4€ per piece. Then another 4€ (minimum) for shipping and the other 4€ for a designer. That's how the 12€ come together.

But thank you guys anyway for the answers :).

Shipping is a killer...

Hey henslerleon!

I really like the idea of a nice simple card game. :) I've tried to design one, but haven't been able to do it yet, but I keep trying! I agree that The Game Crafters is a good option, they will even sell your game on their website!

Oh, shipping... Shipping is a killer! I think it might be the number one thing that trips up Kickstarters. I'm glad you have thought about it. I would just be sure to be very clear to the pledges in your campaign.

Hey Joe, if you want to

Hey Joe,

if you want to create a simple card game start with the simple facts:
How many players and what is the mechanic.
The main mechanics are in my opinion doing prints (like in Skat, Doppelkopf etc), having a fitting card for the stack (like UNO), docking cards (like Romme, "Elfer kommt raus" and my game :) ) and the battling mechanic (like Magic the gathering, Pokemon etc). There are surely other mechanics but they are definetly not suitable for a simple game.
After you chose your mechanic/s and the player amount implement your special idea. What makes this game different. This is the most important part. Try to build and modify the main mechanic around your innovative idea or feature.
And then if you get a halfway running gameplay try implementing some rules or components to make it more spicey and interactive. For example "lying" components or cooperative.
But always think of "K.I.S.S".
Keep It Simple and Stupid. Nobody wants to remember countless extra rules just for a card game.
Ok that's it. I hope i could give you a frame to design a simple and clean card game.

Cheers,
Leon

Maybe I can test it?

Hi Leon,

I'm traveling for a few months and thus have some time on my hands. Additionally, al the games I buy I have to carry with me, so I tend to stick to games that don't weigh much... so your game seems ideal for me (and my girlfriend) to test. Just send over the rules and I'll try to give it a look :)
