Hey everyone, I started a game a few years ago called Chip Shop (http://www.chipshopgame.com). It was inspired by movies like The Micro Men and TV shows like Halt and Catch Fire. In it players are the head of a computer company in 1980s America, looking for a slice of the action.

I worked on several versions of the game, play testing throughout 2016 at meet ups, the UKGE and Essen. Then I was left a bit stuck, at an impasse, not sure what to do with all the feedback and extremely overwhelmed.

Then some personal stuff, and a lot of work commitments kind of made me lose 2017. Now it’s 2018 and I’m a bit sick of making excuses and want to get back to finishing some things.

I think I came to a realisation that whilst I’m good with coming up with ideas, research, writing, theme, and basic design, I’m not so good at the mechanics and If I am to continue things, I need someone to collaborate with who’s better at that side of things.

Aside from the base game I have ideas for expansions, and future games. So this would hopefully be an ongoing and long-term partnership if we get on.

I'd love to hear from you, Chris (chriswhward@gmail.com) :)

Greetings!

Hello, Chris!

Finding time to pursue our designs proves to be one of the most difficult things for many of us. Like anything else you want to accomplish, I can only recommend placing it on your calendar for starters. I see far too many people who have aspirations of getting in shape, playing the guitar, or completing a board game prototype and simply stalling. At the risk of public error, I read, some time ago, that you're 85% more likely to do those things which you've scheduled, much like going to work or any other of our busy-life-daily activities.

With regard to time, I'm blessed to have more than ever as my daughter is off to college and my girlfriend lives in the city. Despite that however, I learned to accept only those board game ventures which accommodated my schedule and earned a positive return on my investment. This year, as for the past seven years, I'm working with Decision Games on about 6-8 war game titles; Compass Games for a large "monster" war game slated for release 4Q 2018 or possibly 1Q 2019; Jamey Stegmaier from Stonemaier Games; and Outer Limit Games on two titles.

You have come to the right place, though, as there are a number of intelligent, dedicated designers and developers out here who will appreciate the opportunity to work with you and help craft your game. Best of luck to you and to your efforts in advancing Chip Shop in 2018.

Cheers,
Joe
