I know not everyone on here lives in the USA, but can we take a step back from board games to discuss our joke of a country?

Children being taken from their parents at the border by ICE. The children are put in modern concentration camps and only given 2 hours of free time or fresh air.

No one has seen Meliania Trump in 20 days. When asked about his wife, Trump responded with, “She’s perfectly fine. She’s right there looking at us” Then when reporters turned to the window Trump was indicating, they saw no one. So Trump is seeing aparations of his wife around the White House.

California wants to split into three separate states to give republicans more power!

2018 is a big April Fools joke or just a simulation.

What are you’re thoughts?

split

One thing you can be sure of - when the US splits into several countries, every one of them is going to be a nuclear power (remember the Ukraine) and several will be hostile to each other.

Post-Apocalyptic games should be considered (even if Shadowrun kinda beat us to it).

But this is a forum dedicated to game design......................

You mean Democrats, I assume? Additional left-leaning Senate seats?

And hasn't Melania been back around for several weeks now?

Anyway, I'd say (a) a lot of people here aren't in the US, and (b) adding political conversation to an apolitical forum is not a really good idea.

Now if you want to make a GAME out of it, other than one where you catapult Mexicans over the border wall...

Quick Takes

Sure, I'll bite.

IMMIGRATION
It's not very often I feel moved to use the phrase, "wrong side of history," but anyone who supports these policies seems to be exactly that. I saw video footage of this for the first time earlier this evening, and I suspect it will be an international mark of shame on US citizens for generations. I head the head of ICE mention something about,"Just doing our jobs," and that made me nauseous.

CALIFORNIA SECESSION
If California votes to secede, they will be importing their water from the United States. I don't think this is a solid plan, to put it mildly. Their people and their farmlands will dry up (except all the rich folks will become seasteaders until torrential sea storms capsize their homes).

FIRST LADY
I personally don't care a whit about this. If she passes away, that'll be a shame, but at first glance it seems like she's had a good run.

SIMULATION?
Not likely. This is just life as we know it, in these interesting times.

California was talking about

California was talking about splitting into 3 states, not seceding. Most secession talk comes from Texas :)

(there is "talk" about a future exit program, but that seems highly unlikely, while the split actually just got on the next ballot)

Not here

This does not belong here. You can post your opinion on current events in those types of forums.

Well, you know what they say about venturing into the Water Cooler Forum:

Either that, or something about, "Abandon all hope, ye who enter here..." Not completely certain about that, myself.

As long as everyone stays friendly, it's okay.

I share your concern, but as stated the "Water Cooler" is the place to bring up off-topic threads and conversations. While I think discussing Politics and Religion are generally "No-Nos" in any forum, it's up to members of the forum to decide if they want to participate or not.

Generally speaking, we don't want to be policed like on Board Game Geek where you paste a Game-Related thread and it is removed because it violates BGG policies.

BGDF is a friendlier forum and allows some "off-topic" conversation.

But realize that because this thread is about politics, if anyone voices their opinion on "World Leaders" and the conversation turns from general off-topic to opinionated banter, I will lock the thread.

We don't want any political "bashing" (If you know what I mean)...

Well then

Seems like ppl are ok with this topic being posted so here I go lol. Why would any state controlled by a particular party WANT to split in order to give a different party control? Your premise and conclusion does not make sense.
Whats happening is, parts of California who disagree with the current powers, want to split from the state and form new state(s). This is within their rigbt to do so.

Well, sort of. It's within their right to TRY. I'm pretty sure the US Congress still has to approve it.

You're guess is partially correct.

Read Article IV Section 3 of our Constitution

almost a week late

I know we just had an election, but weren't dead threads supposed to rise on Oct 31st after dark ???

Some political statements DO belong in a game design area.

"The AIs have decided that changing all 37 planets to a single quantum state (same color) will open passage to that one's home universe. This would also make the planets best for that one and worse for everybody else.

That one must be us.

We (and allies if any) must prevail and control the Singularity.
Only the Others stand in our way."

But a game design area generally avoids things like
"is wearing greenface in cosplay being racist".

Wrong universe, probably.
