Well since Nintendo killed support for the Nintendo DSi in 2017, it is no longer possible to download software from Nintendo. Furthermore it is getting harder and harder to find "Nintendo DS" games/cartridges.

Also people are taking advantage of the limited availability of certain DS/DSi titles which are either very popular or a great game.

I accidentally found the R4 3DS Chip which is compatible with DS, DS-lite, DSi, and 3DS.

What's so interesting about this Chip? Well it's the format of DS cartridges and allows you via a USB loader to DOWNLOAD ROMs from various sites online. Those NDS ROMs can be downloaded and transfered to a Micro SD card which can then be used with the R4 3DS Chip...

To explain, it means you can download ANY DS game and copy it to your Micro SD and subsequently on your portable unit, you can play it.

From one perspective ... Since games are not being made anymore, downloading the hottest titles like over $50 USD for the booklet and cartridge FOR FREE will really extend the lifespan of your portable game unit...

I know there are a TON of "Phone Apps/Games" but my phone is a method of communication not games and all kinds of apps...

But my Nintendo DSi (and I have the wireless working which allows me to browse the Internet via the portable...) was designed to play games. And there are plenty of Nintendo DS games around (thousands of titles).

Anyway if anyone is looking to extend the lifespan of their portable DS/DSi/3DS ... the R4 3DS Chip is the one to look for!

Cheers...

It might be more prudent to suggest people seek out and legitimately purchase the games from places like eBay, craigslist, or their Friendly Local Game Store.

Just sayin'.

Obviously that was a typo,

Obviously that was a typo, because I'm sure nobody here would be advocating violating copyrights...

I was advocating using one Micro SD Card (8gb) to download and store on one single Card as opposed to having all your game carts spread around... This way you can save all your games on one (1) card and not need to worry about searching for them... The R4 handles the NDS files and allows you to play any title on the Card.

Of course if you cannot find some of your own hard to find Carts, well this might be another way of procuring a copy. Or if you have misplaced a Cart, I used to have "Devil Survivor" and no longer have my copy (darn it)!

Cheers!

Note: I had a ton of CDs and just converted them to MP3 to store on a USB key. Now all I need is one USD key instead of dragging around a library of compact discs!
