Looking for some EURO abilities

So I am looking to TRY to figure out some EURO Game Actions that may be used in my Game Tile Laying game entitled "Plains of Aria" (PoA).

Specifically there are five (5) cards per player which are randomly shuffled and then assigned a colored disk. These cards have values from "1" to "5" and I am hoping that when you accomplish the goal of laying "1" Tile of a specific type or "4" Tiles of another type, etc. etc. that you may use that card's Special Ability...

Here are some of my ideas so far:

5: Roll the PoA Dice for an alternate outcome.
4: ???
3: Play another tile this turn.
2: Return a tile from play.
1: Block the placement of a tile.

They are INVERTED in importance. Why? Because "Blocking" may be an IMPORTANT Ability and adds credit to why you would want to play a single Tile ("1") to earn the ability to block one of your opponents.

I'm trying to think of "EURO" such that they do not AFFECT the opposing players and only target the player using the Ability. I want them to be the most NON-INVASIVE as possible.

If anyone has other ideas, please feel free to share!

Because I am focusing on WANTING the game to be an EURO...

I am trying to have abilities that are less intrusive. Clearly at some times the players may want to play Game Tile to BLOCK an opponent. But the reality of this is that it is "detrimental" to ones own game to focus on what the opponent is doing rather than focusing on your OWN area of play.

That's why I am getting a more "EURO"-feel for the game. You can't block Cities and you can harm Temples (lower "Culture Points")... But really I get the feeling that all the players are focusing on doing what is BEST for THEMSELVES.

My thoughts go something like this:

5 & 3: pretty much NON-INVASIVE.
2: A little bit but you can play again on a later turn.
1: Blocking is probably semi-invasive.

But remember these are ONE-TIME abilities and once you use them, they are used forever.

UNLESS:

4: Re-Play a previously Ability Card.

That could be good and could be any of the other 4 Abilities. Again VERY Euro-like TBH...

or

4: Swap "Kingdom" Cards.

Again very EURO-ish

Again please share with me your thoughts.

Cheers.

Note #1: What I am currently "exploring" is the possibility of having some kind of "DRAFT" for "Kingdom" Cards. IDK... Just some random thoughts ATM. Still embryonic TBH.

Food for thought...

I am (AGAIN) contemplating having some kind of RESOURCE to help with the DRAFTING concept that I am working on.

I'm thinking that I should keep it SIMPLE: GOLD.

Generally speaking I am thinking about this as "Basic Turn Actions":

1. Place a Game Tile.

This is the outcome of the roll of the PoA Custom Terrain Dice. You may or may NOT want to play the Terrain Type rolled and as such this leads to option #2.

2. Skip placing a Game Tile.

By passing you turn, you earn +1 GOLD.

3. Move a Game Tile from its location.

This is the 3rd possibility and it requires that all Tile Placement Rules are correctly followed. This could be used later in a game to hinder an opponent and try to win by "brute force" so-to-speak.

4. Construct or Upgrade a Building.

There are a total of three (3) Buildings: Cities, Temples and one Capitol per player. Cities can have up to "3" Culture Points if and when Upgraded and Temples can have up to "6" Culture Points. The Capitol may be built adjacent to a city such that the Capitol earns a Bonus +1 Culture Points for each Temple that is up to five (5) Game Tiles away.

***

At the beginning of the game you start with "3 GOLD". This allows you to DRAFT a "Kingdom" Card with Values "1" to "3". You draw {Player + 1} "Kingdom" Cards and place them in a reserved area for "Bidding". Sequence of play goes "Player #1" onwards and the "1st" Player selects which Card that they want to BID on.

If Player #1 absolutely wants a specific card... They may out-right simply BUY the card for "3" GOLD as this is the maximum amount of GOLD available at the START of each Round.

Alternatively Player #1 may place "1" GOLD on three (3) Cards showing that he is open to earning one of those "Kingdom" Cards. Any combination is possible and they may choose "2" Gold on one Card and "1" Gold on another Card.

This is if the Drafting/Bidding Mechanic is of interest and does NOT detract time away from the game itself...

More research needs to be done to determine if this is a VIABLE "Turn PHASE: Drafting/Bidding".

A City can have from "1" to "3" Culture Points. A Temple can have two-times (2x) the amount of Culture that the connecting City has. So if a "Red/Mountain" City has "2" Culture Points, it's Temple when and IF built, can have up to "4" Culture Points.

Culture Points for a Temple depend on the surrounding Game Tiles around it: Each player owned Tile can allow a Temple to be blessed by that many Culture Points given the maximum of the connected City.

So for "4" Culture Points, that Temple would need to be connected to a "2+" City and have 4 Terrain Tiles connected to that temple.

It's VERY important to BUY the correct "Kingdom" Cards as these are the cards that will DEFINE your "Kingdom" (duh) and determine how you can Build Cities which lead to Temples and more Culture Points.

You need to score 20 Culture Points to win the game.

In addition, each "Kingdom" Card has Culture Points from "1" to "3". These signify the amount of GOLD required to acquire a Card.

***

To build a City requires only "1" GOLD. To Upgrade a City requires "2" GOLD. Total = 7 GOLD for the largest City.

To build a Temple requires "2" GOLD. To upgrade a Temple requires "2" GOLD. Total = 12 GOLD for the largest Temple.

To build a Capitol requires "3" GOLD and it MUST be adjacent to a City with "3" Culture Points. And it produces +1 Culture Points to any and all Temples 5 Tiles away.

I'm going to STOP right now and let this rest and think about it some more... Why? Because I'm thinking that the PHASES of the game are a bit BACKWARDS.

See you get "3" GOLD per turn. If you BUY a "Kingdom" Card, you spend between "1" and "3" GOLD depending on the BIDDING. If that is PHASE #1... Well then the next PHASE #2 is NOT playing a Tile and earning +1 GOLD which means that at the MOST you have "4" GOLD or least "1" GOLD.

See what I am getting at???

Really LIKE the direction this game is going in and I'm definitely getting the "Medium EURO" feel for the game.

Enough for now... Time for BED and let things simmer and see where that leads!

Cheers.
