JoMunDo: An Abstract Strategy Game

Today, I had a "eureka!" sort of moment when I concieved the idea for a game. I nonsensically named the game "Jomundo" and at the time had only a goal and a mechanic in mind: "Align 5 pieces horizontally, diagonally, or vertically. There are 3 different types of pieces, each that behaves differently."

I decided on a wooden (hopefully when finalized) board similar to Mancala, but with small dishes aligned 5 by 5.

I created the three pieces based off the name, a Jo, a Mun, and a Do.
A Jo is agile. It has the ability to jump over an allied or enemy piece adjacent to it, so long as there is a space to land (think checkers, but without removing the piece).

A Mun is strong. It has the ability to move into the space of an enemy adjacent to it, while pushing the enemy and any enemies behind it back 1 space. If this would move the enemy pieces off a side or corner of the board, then the Mun cannot move there (moves like Abalone).

A Do is tricky. He has the ability to enter the already occupied space of an enemy or ally piece (this can create a win). A single dish occupied by two pieces cannot be pushed. A maximum amount of 2 pieces are allowed in a dish this way.

Hopefully, this amount of pieces allows enough versatility to keep in mind all your opponent's moves (I hope I won't be pushed here, or can they get away by jumping, or can they move through my pieces?). As well as what pieces to (secretly) begin the game with (it is your choice, you begin with 8 pieces).

Good News!

Note: From now on I shall only place ideas in the form of comments, not new journals, as it spams the site. Sorry about that.

Anyway, good news now! After some considerable playtesting (still more to come, obviously) I think it is safe to deem my idea "complete" all the kinks in the rules have been smoothed out, and soon I will make a better looking prototype.

Questions

I'm picturing this in my mind. I assume 2 players. I'm also guessing less than 13 total pieces per player, since there are 25 total cells and you'll want to have some empty cells, but how many of each type? So far it sounds like my kind of abstract strategy game. Add a few more details and you can start playtesting. :-)

I Already Have :3

Thanks for the comment! There are 8 pieces per player, allowing about 9 empty spaces at most. I was going to allow you to construct your own team, using any number of a certain piece, but of course 8 total pieces.

However, I have already begun playtesting, and now I have noticed some kinks (attempting to win along an edge is an almost unbeatable strategy, unless you can prevent it). So I am making a few changes, and posting them now.

Comments always appreciated!
