I always thought their

I always thought their business looks a little suspect. As if they are making their money off the wanna-be game designers, rather than making money bringing games to market. How many game designs have actually been published through the help of Games Play UK?

But maybe I'm wrong, and this is an honest company. If you have any information on how your meeting went, I'd love to hear about it.

I'm on thier e-mail list and

I'm on their e-mail list and get e-mails about games they are promoting.

I have tried to find out more information about these games like where they are sold by doing web searches or checking on board game geek but have never found any of them.

As I've stated elsewhere,

As I've stated elsewhere, they have offered me a 'contract' for 60% royalties, but are demanding £3,900 up front.

I've written back offering them a 50/50% deal with no investment from me up front.

Will report back

Are you saying they want 60%

Are you saying they want 60% of the royalties from a game you are funding?

This doesn’t sound like a good deal! The brokers in the US I have heard of charge nothing up front and only take 30 to 40% and I think that is steep.

Sound Advice, I Hope!

Sounds a lot like the invention companies here in the states. They offer to design and market your idea but expect you to pay a fee, about $6000.00 us to cover initial costs and a percentage of the profits. The only thing that ever happens is a few letters, some emails and then some calls asking for more money without any real results. You are much better trying to market the game yourself through a website or with other sites like kickstarter. 80% of the money they make goes towards thier advertising budget not your idea! Hope this helps, because I almost got trapped before but thankfully listened to an experienced friend, even though I wanted to believe they were legit.

Anyone in the US of A heard of Txtpert, Quiz ology, Beddy Bye Baby or Obscurity, the games that GPUK claim are most successful?

They are good at webpage design, though!

Why do a new designer have to

Why do a new designer have to gamble like that? Why not get a few titles out as pnp, selfpublish, small publishers etc first, going for bigger publishers later when you have a name or at least a portfolio?

ok I'm happy staying hobby/indie, so I have no plan testing if it would work to scale up much.

Just heard back from Games

Just heard back from Games Play UK Ltd. I offered them a 50/50 royalty split if they fund initial development costing. They turned it down. 'Not company policy' as predicted. They are now offering to produce an online 3D version, but want £2000 to do it!

I don't recommend agents or

I don't recommend agents or brokers in general, and especially not ones that ask for any money up front, at all.

and, to be more specific, I wouldn't put any faith in a company that says (as gamesplayuk does on their site):
"We DO NOT require finished prototypes. Simple, clear illustrations will be more than enough... (We know a good idea without the need for impressive artwork or models!)"
