Need testers for a post apocalyptic card game

I have created a card game (race for the hills) which I would like to see what other people besides my group of friends think off.

The game is set in a post apocalyptic world. The settlement you were living in has just been raided by outsiders. You and a few other survivors loaded your shotguns, took the last remaining working car and are fleeing to a nearby friendly settlement up in the hills. This will be far from easy. There are many dangers like outsiders shooting everything that moves. Your goal is to gain as much fame as you can.

During play you have cards with one or two effect. All cards have a scene effect. This can always be chosen. Slightly over half the cards also have a player effect. If you want to choose this effect you have to be still alive and sit in the right place in the car to use that effect.

This is not a friendly family game.

It can be played with 3 to 6 players.

If you would like to test this game you can send me a message and I will e-mail you the print and play files.

I'm thinking about using this game mechanic for some other settings, but I would like to know if more people like this kind of game.

Let me see if I got this

Let me see if I got this correct. My settlement hav just bin raded in this postapocalyptic world. Me and the last survivors ar fleeing for our lifes and it is not sertan we will survive, far from it. And the winner is the player with the most fame?

Sorry but I did not see that one coming. Trying to get as many survivors to safty as possible, playing a co-op style game where we al try to work togeteher and we win if we reach safty. One of those or simular objectivs I would understand. But competing for fame?

Can you pleas explain a litle about youre designprocess and why you chose this victorycondition?

I do not see it working with the theame. Have you thought about switching the theme of the game? Maby if you are a gang and teh leader have just been killed. You need a new one fast, so you are holding a competion. The player who can caus the most havoc will be the new leader. (causing havoc = fame).

Well that is just my 2 cents.

No offense to OP and for all

No offense to OP and for all I know the game may be the truth but I must confess I was wondering about the fame thing too.

Thank you for your feedback. I see may explanation is a bit lacking. The survivors are cooperating to reach safety, but on your turn you have to play a card. The player effects are beneficial. The scene effects are something bad that happens from the outside. You can sort off look at that as the game system fighting back (but controlled by players).
I have chosen fame points as a method of scoring because fame is something that is also something achieved outside of the group. In this way a player can die and still win the game. There is a fame bonus if your character survives the trip.
In my test games this worked nicely.
I hope this clears it up a bit. If there are anymore questions I'd be happy to answer them.

I don't see why you can't

I don't see why you can't gain fame even if your on the run from a bandit raid......fame is garnered in the real world by helping out others, so I would think that as you and your fellow survivors flee, you can gain fame by helping them survive and killing the raiders. The others may not think, or care, if your doing it to save your butt, or theirs...just that your doing it.

Along the lines of Mad Max, Road Warrior.

I'm not saying it can't be

I'm not saying it can't be done, I agree with hulken that it was unanticipated though.
The post-apocalyptic mad-max theme, to me suggests a "survival at all cost" and "what's in it for me" mentality. You could still get points for killing raiders, I just maybe would simply call it "points" instead of "fame"... anyway who cares what i think. You go design the shit out of that Eelco!

Download version available

I've decided to put a copy of my game on the web. You can download it (4.2 Mb zip file) from http://members.home.nl/gentle/race_for_the_hills.html. This URL goes to a very basic webpage instead of a direct link because this way I could add a counter.

I have put my e-mail address in the readme file. If you have any questions or comments you can mail me (even if it is to say the game stinks).
