Hello U-Boat Commander is the working title for the game I intend to make.
My idea for this game came from reading up lots on the history of submarines; I love submarines and read as much about them as I can especially WW2 era i.e. the Kriegsmarine.
Looking on the market the only game I can see is Silent War, this is based in the pacific with the player as the Americans and is focussed more on a campaign game which is fine, I however would prefer a game based primarily in the Atlantic that is focussed on you being a commander of a U-Boat not an admiral of the fleet so to speak.
My aim for this game is to make it primarily a solo game that focuses on the player being in charge of his or her U-Boat, I want my players to feel like they achieved something and are rewarded accordingly.
My idea is this, the player begins the game in one of three selected periods during the Second World War, and they will start as a captain with a basic submarine and basic crew, after completing patrols your awarded experience and possibly medals and promotions depending on how well you do. With the experience and promotions you can get better individual crewmembers and better submarines and equipment such as the schnorchel and better torpedoes.
The ultimate goal is to survive the war while sinking as much as you can; promotions and medals await those who manage it.
