Does the world need another zombie game?

Basically, I'm looking for input on the question asked in the subject...there are a metric crap-ton of zombie games out there. Some are good, some are...not so good. Is there a market for a well-designed, balanced, fun zombie game? Why or why not?

Without getting into mechanics, etc., would you consider purchasing a zombie themed game if you felt it was well done?

Thanks for any replies!

Same could be said for

Same could be said for fantasy themed games.
IMO as long as the game plays well and has a kick-ass theme, its a winner. IMO.

Agreed with Herc. Best way of

Agreed with Herc. Best way of thinking about it is with parallels:

"Does the world need another Action Movie"
"Does the wolrd need another who-done-it detective book?"
"Does the world need another fantasy anime"
"Does the world need another car manufacturer"

-It mostly depends on if YOUR action movie/detective novel/anime series/car manufacture is good or not!

If it's rubbish: then no, the world does not need it
If it's good: then yes, it will be well recieved!

The chosen theme may alienate some people, but may equally attract a load of others (other wise people wouldn't be able to say "I'm a fan of SciFi")

Short answer: the world needs more of anything! But don't get stuck in a rut.
Practical answer: most zombie games tend to revolve around a very tired set of mechanics so I would check your game first. If you say to yourself "I will make a zombie game" then rest of us would (almost) be able to guess what your game plays like just from the theme. That shows that the theme would dictate the mechanics. If the theme dictates the mechanics, I know what your game is like is just be looking at the front cover. If I know what your game is like just by looking at the front cover, and most other games with a front cover like that tend to be "meh". Then I think that your game will be "meh" because of the front cover or theme.

So perhaps a better question: "Does the world need a GOOD zombie game?" - Hell yes it does!

Best of luck man :)

Thanks for the responses

Thanks everyone for the responses so far. Your opinions seem to match the response I've gotten from talking to others, and the opinion I had before posting here...I searched the term "zombie" on BGG and there were 2 pages of games or expansions with "zombie" in the title, but the highest rated one is 7.1 or so. Not that BGG ratings are the end all and be all, but the range of ratings for those games is a good indicator of the quality of the games out there.

I'll post another reply with the "backstory" that was submitted; responses appreciated. Then perhaps we'll get into some of the game mechanics as they were described to us in the general submission. Keep in mind that this idea was sent to us but the game isn't fleshed out and doesn't have a prototype made or anything...it's more me building off this idea to see if a good game can be made of it.

backstory

OK, so here is the game backstory/blurb/plot hook:

Manhattan, New New York, fall of 2143. The government of the Free States of America struggles to hold off the onslaught of the World Alliance's forces, as citizens gather in one of the few areas of New York City remaining under the Free States' control. The Great War, in its 12th year, is close to an end, and victory for the World Alliance seems clear.
However, for three years, the Free States have had their scientific study team hidden away, working on a biological weapon that they think will even the playing field against the superior forces of the Alliance. Finally, after three years of work, the scientific study team thinks they have perfected the gas, and are ready to present it to the Free States' government and military personnel.
Neither the scientists nor the government could have imagined what would happen next though - during transport, a miniscule amount of the gas escaped its container, and the scientists were exposed...and now the citizens of Manhattan have a new worry, a new battle to fight. The scientists have become walking dead, and seek only one thing...food, in the form of human brains! The infection is spreading, and the citizens must get out of Manhattan before this new breed of zombies overwhelms the population with their insatiable hunger!

Another Zombie Game? Yes!

Absolutely! I'm wondering if a game where the zombies are actually a bit more like bumbling goofs would be interesting...or if there was some way to add a sense of humor to the game.

I came across this website some time ago, and have enjoyed its sense of humor.
