Okay, so the site's new layout is still sinking in. So I posted a Game Journal entry when what I think I wanted was a Blog. I want to add additional entries as I progress. So let's try this again (at the end is posted my FIRST entry).
Anyway! On to today's entry!
I'm trying to populate my game world with the aforementioned quests and encounters. I want to avoid LOTR and its derivatives and instead draw from Arthurian legend and Greek/Roman myths. Here's my free flowing list:
unicorns, griffons, knights, princesses, kings, queens, princes, vampires, giant spiders, trolls, dragons, treasure (gold, jewels), swords, shields, helms, fairies, sorcerers, Merlin, medusas, witches, potions, gargoyles, scrolls
And for quests:
-find a weapon / find material to get a special weapon made
-kill a big monster
-kill several smaller monsters
-contest against a knight
-woo the princess
Just looking for archtypal ideas that I'll then adapt to my game world.
I love this. =)
****FIRST POST (in Game Journals):****
Mon, 09/15/2008 - 10:48 — Ska_baron Okay, here's my planning thus far with the help of my beautiful sounding board - err, wife - I mean wife:
An adventure game using card management and poker elements to achieve drawn quests across a tile board that is built as the game unfolds and including random card drawn encounters.
Simple, right? Not for me it seems. I'm the type of designer that inherently adds details almost for the sake of details... not good when I want this game to be a crossover adventure/dungeon crawl game that achieves the ease of a gateway game like Settlers or TTR with enough interest for more experienced gamers. This is where my wife comes in. I pitch my evolving ideas for the game and she shoots down what sounds like too much and expands upon what sounds like it works. KISS - Keep It Simple Stupid - is my mantra.
A rough prototype is in the works now, to be completed hopefully this weekend.
To complete:
36 tiles (forest, cave, castle)
20 Quest cards
25 Chest cards
Other elements:
4 player tokens/player mats?
44 Power cards (10 in each element + 4 wilds)
Gold tokens
Gem tokens?
