Announcing the "Big Box Challenge" at The Game Crafter

The Game Crafter - Big Box Challenge - Board Game Design Contest

Yesterday we announced our Trick Taker Challenge and today we're announcing our Big Box Challenge. This board game design challenge is unique because you can choose any theme or mechanics you want. Typically contests in The Game Crafter community have pretty strict requirements in these areas.

I've never attempted to

I've never attempted to create anything this size, but i might give it a go if i get time.

I think this might just be

I think this might just be the right contest for my game, only two possible issues:

The time for 2 or 3 players who are EXPERIENCED players, is just under 2 hours. But with 4 players, or with first time players, it is around 3 hours. Does it still qualify?

Second: my game is definitely a big box game with a lot of components and cards. Are you going by the individual price, or the bulk price? The bulk price shows how much an individual copy would cost if 100 or more were printed, right?

Answers

Hi Mokheshur,

Thanks for your interest in our Big Box Challenge. Here are some answers for you:

#1 - The game needs to be 1-2 hours no matter who's playing it. Obviously people who are experienced in the game are typically going to play faster, but the rules do specifically say no to 3 hours. :)

#2 - We're referring to the individual price. You are correct that the BEST bulk price happens at 100+ units, although bulk discounts start at 10+ units and get better as you reach 20+, 30+, 40+, etc.. units. 100+ units gives you our absolute best bulk discount.

Happy designing!

Thanks for the answers! I and

Thanks for the answers! I and my play-testers are trying a couple tweaks that should keep the game at the 2 hour mark, which was my goal anyway.

We'll see how the price goes...

Let's do this!

Sounds good, Kirkatronics.

Often times we hear from designers who appreciate the motivation they get from deadlines. It's obviously a double edged sword though if you're in a busy season and just can't find time to do it. Good luck to you and your schedule! :)

Wonderful

Sure thing!

There are always plenty of designers on our site chatting about game design and the contests. So feel free to pop into our "general chat" in the bottom right corner of our website. (www.thegamecrafter.com) You'll need to have a user account and be logged in to participate in the chat. You might find some folks who can help you solve problems or suggest things to try. It's a great community, just like BGDF! :)

Just realized the 10"x10"

Just realized the 10"x10" large square board won't fit into the large retail box, only the large pro box. So, I guess I need to redesign my player boards if I'm going to enter this contest.
