Arcana Victoriana: Naming the action of a mechanic. -Final stages-

I still need a name for the action of turning a die into a die of more sides.
Example: 1d4 becomes 1d6. 1d10 becomes 1d8.

EDIT: I have narrowed down the choices.
The ideas that have been suggested are as follows:

Final 3:
Promote / Demote (The more I say it, the more it sounds like it should be for a WWII or Civil War wargame.)
Strengthen / Weaken (Sounds thematic but I fear no one would use it. A bit too thematic maybe?)
Gear Up / Gear Down (Steampunk-y)

Examples of use would be:
"When this model uses this ability, Promote your Strength Die."
"If model is hit, Gear Down that model's Armor Die."
"Every friendly model within 6" may Strengthen their Skill Die."
"If the targeted model is engaged in close combat, that model's Skill Die will be Demoted."
"If this model is engaged by more than one enemy model, that model's Skill Die is automatically Geared Down."
"When this ability is used, this model's Power Die cannot be Weakened."

Removed:
Upgrade / Downgrade (sounds good, but a bit too Cyberpunk-sounding for the game)
Bolster/Sabotage
Boost / Exhaust (Best antonym I could think of) "Hinder" was suggested
Ratchet or Wrench / Dismantle or Screw (I Screwed your dice!)
Reinforce / Sabotage (maybe Undermine or Weaken?)
Bolster / Undermine (Not really feeling Undermine though is maybe the best)
Step Up / Step Down (RPG term for this mechanic)

I really like boost and exhaust myself. I think Undermine is too long. Bolster and sabotage might be cool

As much as I like the idea of

As much as I like the idea of my dice rolls getting "screwed," here are my thoughts:

I like "boost," and a good antonym for that might be "hinder."

Alternatively, I have a rule of thumb that everything that can be thematic should be thematic, and as such, I think "gear up/gear down" might be the best. An advantage to this is that if people don't like 2 syllables, they could easily convert it to just, "I up my attack roll."

Thanks. This helped me narrow

Thanks. This helped me narrow the choices. I'm really on the fence with all of the final choices. Each has its own flavor and enjoyment of use.

Upgrade / Downgrade

What about Upgrade / Downgrade?
