Things in Full Swing

I Guess I need to introduce myself. Hi, I'm James, I'm working on a card game Rise of the Chieftain. (I'll include the spiel at the end of this entry.) Right now, I'd like to just share the excitement and bewilderment of this process. Yesterday, I had a very productive meeting with an Artist friend of mine. I wasn't expecting her to be so interested in the project. I didn't have to sell her on it at all! I spent most of the day today on the SBA website learning about business plans and taxes and market research. I'm actually thinking of delegating the game design work to others so I can spend more time on the business and organization aspect.

I got a whiteboard recently; it’s the best investment I’ve made. I can look at everything I need to do at a glance. I have play testing this weekend in Baltimore, so I’m going to have to remake some cards based on my Artist’s advice. My rules also need some touch up before I try to play with other people. I should also start a conversation with the fine folks of Canton games while I’m in the city. So, much to do, but I love every second.

Well if there is anyone in the DC/Baltimore area that wants to play test, message me. Also, If there are any other developers looking to self-publish perhaps we can band together. Although, I’m not sure it’s still self-publishing at that point. Anyway, here is the spiel as promised:

Look up in the sky at a distant star. Imagine what planets might circle that star. Imagine what kind of life might be on that planet. Do you imagine a vicious and wild planet? Do you imagine an advanced and enlightened civilization beginning to colonize other planets? Or perhaps like me, you imagine a camp fire and strange creatures around it just starting to ask each other about the stars.

Rise of the Chieftain centers around just such a pack of creatures on the verge of sentience. They are evolving a more social tribal lifestyle. Your goal as one of them is to rise to leadership, to be the prime dynast spawning chieftains, kings, and emperors for generations to come. To do this, you need to collect the influence of your band. You may impress them with performances or best them in ritual combat. The choice is yours. Meanwhile, your burgeoning new brain might come up with tools to help you on your quest. Can you rise to the top or will your descendants be the servants and laborers of society?

      See you around- JB

Welcome

Good to see another CCG maker. You should checkout www.CardGameForge.com, a site that I'm working on that is 100% geared towards the CCG designer. You can create a game profile that you can use to share your game with others (including automatic PDF card printing).

Anyway, good luck (I've tried to make several CCGs and have just about given up on all of them). I would love to see your game on my site!

Thanks

Thanks for the welcome and the link. However, I don't think my game counts as a collectable card game. In my game everyone works from the same deck. Although, It might be interesting to try randomized expansions- to add some collectability to it.

Collectibility

It sounds like a cool game. Well, a cool premise, at least. I'll be interested to see where you take it.

UNSOLICITED ADVICE WARNING
Please, no randomized expansions. Expansions, hells yes, but the randomization pretty much irritates people.
END UNSOLICITED ADVICE

CardGameForge is for cardgames in general. Any card game fits, so, pretty please? (I want to see it work...)

Ok OK

Yeah, it was kind of a silly idea.

Like brisingre said, the site is intended for card games in general (or even for board games with printable parts). There is certainly a place for non-CCG/TCG games on the site.
