KublaCon 2011

3 Tours of War! - The Board Game

I am looking forward to my first visit to KublaCon! I have never been to a gaming convention before and hope to see and play a lot of new games; both published and unpublished.
I am also submitting my game 3 Tours of War into the amateur board game design contest and hope to get good feedback from the people who play it.
I have read and received a lot of good tips from BGDF and would like to thank the community for it, and I hope to see some of you there :-)

- KublaCon is in San Francisco CA from May 27th - 30th

I make games therefore I am

I recently had a dream, in the dream I played a game. I woke up and wrote the game down. Well gee that was fun! Then I started writing a fantasy book, to write the book I wanted a background, which involved a game, so I made a game.. that was years ago, but I just finished writing the rules for that game in a user friendly, rough draft kind of way. And then I found this website! yay! I'll probably be reading a lot before I become active in the forums, I haven't much of a clue about publishing or who would want to publish a fantasy type 9x9 board game..

anyways, hi! I'm Joe

Mythic Migration Debuts on BGG

In the continuing quest to market Mythic Migration, added it to BGG here: http://boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/96687/mythic-migration

I have looked through the forums here and seen other success stories out of the BGDF, is there a Guild on BGG for BGDF? Thanks again for the support and sounding board for ideas!

Close Combat Training Pt1

This is my thinking process as I start to work on a new project for a game contest posted over on the BGG.

http://www.boardgamegeek.com/thread/644090/solitaire-print-and-play-contest

"...This thread is to discuss a Solitaire Print and Play Contest. This contest has been scheduled for July 1st - August 31st (beginning after the Synergy Design Contest). The goal of this contest would be to design solitaire-driven games that are fairly easy to build and with easy to moderately-complex rules..."

Always Delays

My childrens game Hungry fox, ages 6+ was due for worldwide english language release in January. I have been trying to pin down my publisher on a date since then and have finally found out that it should be out in October. This is after a two year wait. My experience is that delays are self propagating so I hoping for no later than first quarter of 2012.

I guess it’s not such a big deal if it doesn’t get dropped altogether. I have been through this several times before and had delay after delay add up to cancelation. I’m keeping my fingers crossed and forging ahead with new designs.

Still looking for a publisher

Well, I've approached a publisher - even went to the Spieltag to pitch it in person; what a day that turned out to be. But all I got is, "Sorry, we'd love to but we can't."

I'm sure it doesn't help that my game is "merely" an abstract strategy game, not a game with a theme, as seem to be the most popular in this day and age. And despite wandering around the conference last year looking for companies who might be even remotely interested (besides the one I pitched it to), I couldn't find any: all I found were themes, themes and more themes.

Looking for reviewers - Startup Fever heading for Kickstarter.com

Startup Fever is going on Kickstarter very soon. I am looking for fresh eyes, and opinions on the Kickstarter project description (and any other stuff related to the game). If you can help, please share an e-mail address offline (easier to send you a nicely formatted package, as I can't give you access to the unlaunched project on Kickstarter)

Really??? You beat me to my own game???

Saturday, at 4 in the morning, I finished v3.0 of my game (to which I believe will be the final version). I was looking at the newest Game Trade Magazine after I got off of work that afternoon and read through all the new games coming out.

I come across this game coming out in May 2011 called "Letter Flipz", "Flip Cardz", or something to that effect.

"A game in which players frantically flip over cards with letters printed on them to create words as fast as possible."

CAPTCHA Chaos! v3.0

Okay, I finally got some REALLY good info. The older scoring system is back in effect and the points for words have been changed.

Easy, Medium, and Hard words are 1, 2, and 3 points each.
Finishing all your words (thus ending the round) gives you 1 point.
All other players will still dump their tiles for unfinished words.
Extra points are awarded at the end of the game once again:
2 for most Easy words finished, 3 for most Medium, and 4 for most Difficult. (Needs testing)
