Creating custom game materials

I've been designing a new game but was struggling with how I was going to produce a few quality parts for playtesting. I experimented with reference stickers attached to playing cards, but wasn't satisfied. I wanted a look the future testers could understand but wouldn't be distracted by the design. My solution? A Cricut.

I’m trying to be optimistic

Yesterday I received an update from a publisher that was planning on putting out one of my games this fall.

Did you notice I said WAS?

Set Backs and stuff!

Hahrumph! That has been the word of the month or so... lots and lots of things have got in the way of me doing more work on my Foul Treachery Game. The biggest obstacle towards my Game design goals was the utter crashing of my laptop... It was very poorly indeed and had to be rebuilt from the ground up. Luckily we managed to save the files, but not the program that I used to do all my design work. So it has been a bit of time until I've got all of that back together and got my head in a place where I want to think about games again.

... Well...

Summer, and lots of planning.

Castle Defense, Basic 3 Structure game.

So the other day we had a huge family get together. There was food, music, drinks, and games. Games. That got me thinking. It's summer time. Adults, Children, Teenagers, whatever the age may be. Someone will always be looking to sit down and play games.

Quality Mass Market Games

I know right off many of you are thinking that this is an oxymoron. Still MM doesn’t have to mean crap.

One step closer to a nice prototype- Sky Pirates

This week the cards for my 'in beta' game "Sky Pirates" arrived from Artscow- I managed to take advantage of a coupon code and get 2 custom decks for 11.98, shipping from HongKong included. The cards look great- I am quite happy with how they came out, although the stock that Artscow uses is a bit lighter than a standard poker deck.

Who I am...

Hey guys (and girls)-
Just wanted to post something up here to say hi to you all and thanks for your time. I am a freelance designer from Portland, OR. As a newbie at this, it's good to know there are others out there curious and interested in board game design. Its a tiny market with a lot of talent, and I could use all the help I can get!
Thanks

And So It Begins...

Just started my account and uploaded a profile picture. My current project:

-Create a new rules set for the Fantasy Flight game "Doom," which I think has cool components and potential, but terrible rules.

My potential near-future game projects:

-Elephants Crossing the Serengeti game
-Splinter Cell-type stealth game
-Rampart game
-Body Humors game
-Medieval Battle card game
-X-COM: UFO Defense game

More thoughts to come.

Ballo dei Pagliacci (Dance of the Clowns)

Thanks to all of the positive feedback and encouragement in the April 2009 GDS Critiques Thread, I decided to post a new version of the game here.

Ballo dei Pagliacci (Dance of the Clowns), as entered, is unplayable. There are not enough stacks and too many restrictions to give the cooperative players a decent chance to defeat the Evil Joker. Here are my ideas on improving the game, based on the feedback and further development:
