Arkopolis Engines - Espionage

This blog thread will be for discussing the different possible ways to handle espionage in the Arkopolis Engines board game we are designing. Everyone is invited to comment and make suggestions.

Arkopolis Engines - Combat Mechanics

Working out a combat mechanic is like cutting off the Hydra's head, each time we think we've got it nailed down, another one pops up. :-)

Ideas are good, don't get me wrong, I like ideas. Have you got a relatively simple crew-vs-crew and crew-vs-critter combat mechanic that might work for us? The only real requirement is that players can only roll one or more d6 and it should be fast and low-math.

We'll run them through some play testing and see how they work.

Arkopolis Engines - Crew Member Roles

ae-logo-90.png

This blog thread will be for discussing character roles in Arkopolis Engines, the steampunk board game we're working on. Generally, the Character Role Cards are the "worker placement" component of the game. Players assign different characters to accomplish different tasks during the game turn using raw materials or constructed equipment or scavenged artifacts.

(Edit: I've changed the title here from "Character Roles" to "Crew Member Roles" to help draw the distinction that this is a board game we're designing, not an RPG game.)

Arkopolis Engines - Prototype Design

Since it looks like I'm in charge of prototyping Arkopolis Engines, I'll start a blog thread of my own for design updates and comments. Please feel free to post all the comments you like about ideas, critiques, suggestions, anything that comes into your mind for this game we're developing.

Alien Frontiers on Kickstarter.com

Banner for Alien Frontiers on Kickstarter.com

Following in the trail blazed by InvisibleJohn and T Worthington, Clever Mojo Games has launched a Kickstarter.com project to seek funding to offset printing costs for our Alien Frontiers project. After less than two days we're already half-way to our $5,000 goal, so it's looking good. Still, it can be said that the first days are the easiest as the most enthusiastic fans jump on board early. We will have to wait and see if the fence-sitters and newly exposed gamers sign on to take us over the top.

Play Tester Evaluation Form

Our next game, Oubliette, is entering the blind play testing phase...sending the game out to people to see if they can play it without the designers coaching them. I created a evaluation form through jotform.com to get feedback from the play testers. The evaluation is geared to take them through the entire process from looking at the box, to examining the components, to setting up the game, to playing it and beyond.

I would appreciate the opinions of the BGDF members about the form itself. Adequate? Foolish? Thorough? Intimidating? Pipe-Dream? Let me know what you think.

Feedback on Ogre Castle Sell Sheet Please

Ogre Castle Sell Sheet

I've just put together my first sell sheet for Ogre Castle and I'd like to get some feedback from the BGDF membership. Is the design ok? The text? Anything constructive feedback would be greatly appreciated.

Hi from Clever Mojo Games

Hi There...My name is David. My brother, Fred, and I started designing family board games in January 2008 and we're in the middle of doing a short self-published run of our first game, Ogre Castle, right now. We also have two or three other games that are almost ready to give the short-run treatment. We're hoping the info here on BGDF, and the connections we'll make here, will help a couple of newbies like Fred and I out as we pursue our dream. I do not know if linking out of BGDF is kosher or not, but here's our fledgeling website if anyone's interested in giving us a look-see.
