Assemble! Part 4: Assembling

I spent an entire day today just making cards for the low-level encounters for this game. I scoured for pictures of the worst and the most pathetic Marvel has to offer.

I'm sick of looking at them.

But now the real fun begins! I get to do dozens of tedious test combats to see if the combat system:

A) Works
B) Is balanced
C) Is intuitive

After I've done a few tests I'll post what (I think) will be the final combat system here and even offer up some PDFs for play testing.

So very far to go until I can call this a game.

Assemble! Part 3: The Ticking Clock

I wanted to make a cooperative game and I wanted it to feel like you were trying to foil some sinister plot by some comic book villain. I was stumped for a while then I played Zombie In My Pocket. Problem solved.

Basically each game the players will choose a master plan, this defines various parameters of the games, but what we're focusing on right now is the game length. Typically 4-5 (game time) hours. Each round of turns takes 15 minutes giving you four turns every hour. You have to accomplish whatever goal(s) are set out on the master plan before the clock runs out. Simple enough.

Assemble! Part 2: Movement

The game board is a tile-placement setup, there is a central time that is placed with intersections to connect. Each tile represents 1 city block, most blocks have a special features that will alter the various turn functions. Each turn the player draws on tile from the supply and places it so the intersections line up correctly with one of the existing intersections. In this way the city is eventually built and the players my then explore it to meet the goals to complete/beat the master plan.

Assemble!

Using some ideas from Zombie in my Pocket to solve the players vs. the game problem. I've resumed development of Assemble! a cooperative superhero board game. I'm still working on scaling it out for more players, but you will take the roll of a group of heroes trying to beat the evil master plan of different villains.
